Yu-M1-2B Series "Molly" Light Mechanized Power Armor

Developed by Yugumo Fleetworks, the Yu-M1-2B Series “Molly” Light Mechanized Power Armor was first conceived in YE 43 as a military prototype of the Tenshi II. Full production of the armor began in YE 45. Of the armor's many design objectives, it is primarily intended to provide the Star Army of Yamatai with a fast, advanced light power armor platform capable of serving alongside the Ke-M2-4 Series "Mindy" Armor and supplementing its capabilities.

History

Anticipating the 5-year review of the Ke-M2-4 Series "Mindy" Armor coming up in YE 43, Yugumo Fleetworks developed a prototype of a variant of the Tenshi II for marketing to the Star Army of Yamatai, powered by military-grade versions of the same systems used in the civilian variant. This prototype did not fully mature until late YE 44, having undergone a number of changes from what was initially conceived. The Molly is slated for full integration into the service in YE 45.

About the Yu-M1-2B Series "Molly" Light Mechanized Power Armor

With roots in Project THOUGHT, the Molly is best characterized as as an advanced, high-performance version of the Mindy 4. While the Molly lacks its sister's teleportation system in its stock configuration, it makes up for this shortcoming in raw performance, via augmented speed, agility, stealth, and sensor capabilities. Otherwise, the Molly retains almost all of the technological advances included in the Mindy 4, including, but not limited to, resistance against aetheric interference, an advanced photonics array, and anti-gravity systems.

Of particular note, the Molly is designed as a hybrid spacey and groundside power armor. This versatility in operating environment is intended to encourage review by both the Rikugun and the Uchuugun for inclusion in one or both of the branches.

As of late YE 44, there are no plans to create Separa'Shan or Elysian variants of the Molly. Given the armor's steep physiological and mental demands, it is doubted that any Separa'Shan or Elysian personnel would be able to pilot the armor beyond the level of a liability.

Appearance

Its appearance is clearly based on, while still trying to remain distinct from, the famous Mindy that its predecessor was designed to replace. The slender, agile-seeming Molly's look is derived from the namesake of its civilian sister variant (Yoru no Tenshi (Yamataigo (邪馬台語) 夜の天使 ) “Angel of the Night”) with its nacelles, arcing gracefully from its back like wings, that bear the unit's Turbo Aether Plasma Drives. Its highly streamlined appearance is reminiscent of a Zentai suit, featureless and sleek. Clearly only lightly armored, the Molly adds very little bulk to the silhouette of its pilot.

Advantages

  • The Molly has integrated stealth and electronic warfare capabilities.
  • Parts and systems commonality with the Mindy 4 enables easier repairs and field maintenance. The Molly can also use Mindy Accessories in its hardpoints without adapters.
  • The Molly is fast and agile, benefitting from improved atmospheric and space performance over the Mindy 4.
  • Compatible with Project THOUGHT technologies and features, which can leveraged by an advanced pilot to get the most out of the armor in any given battlespace.
  • The Molly has an advanced, stealthy aether generator which is well-shielded against detection and interference.

Drawbacks

  • The Molly's photonic barriers and ICFS can not be used at the same time, as the ICFS fields will disrupt photonic projections.
  • The Molly's stock configuration has limited underwater speed, endurance, and utility. Improving this requires installment of the Umikagami Subsurface Operations Suite, which takes all up shoulder, dorsal, waist, and leg hardpoints.
  • Due to its speed and agility, The Molly is extremely taxing on a pilot's joints and physical constitution, even more so than the TARSA. As such, the armor almost necessitates a synthetic pilot with an advanced healing factor to be used to its full capability. In rare cases, untrained Nekovalkyrja have been known to come away from piloting the armor with torn muscles or strains.
  • The Molly does not use Zesuaium in its outer armor construction. Its light Durandium Alloy armor is significantly less durable than the heavy plating used in the Mindy 4.
  • For all intents and purposes, the Molly is an advanced platform. There is a wide performance gap between average and advanced pilots. It demands a fast mental reaction time, robust mental processing power, and a highly-trained physical constitution. More often than not, the Molly's steep physical and mental demands make it a liability in the hands of pilots who lack a digital mind and a strong healing factor.

Mobility

The Yu-M1-2B Series “Molly” Light Mechanized Power Armor is a dynamic, high-performance power armor designed for speed and agility over defensive capacity. Much like the Mindy 4, the Molly can ignore gravity and inertial forces, enabling it to instantly stop, accelerate, or change directions, walk on ceilings or walls, manipulate its weight, and hover in midair.

Armor Size

Height Adds ~8 cm to Pilot's Height
Width Adds ~6 cm to Pilot's Width

Damage Capacity Stats

See Damage Rating (Version 3) for a guide to damage ratings to include.

  • Armor: Tier 4 (Light Armor)
  • Shields: Tier 4 (Light Armor)

Getting In and Out

The Molly uses the most common method of wearing and removing the armor, such as typified by the Mindy 4. It can be worn naked or over the Star Army Bodysuit, Type 42. However, any footwear should be removed prior to donning the armor, in addition to any hard objects such as belts and rank badges.

Like the Mindy 4, there is a back “collar” piece for hanging them on an armor rack.

To don the armor, the center plates at the front of the armor's chest and abdomen angle forwards and downward and the user enters feet-first through the armor's chest area. Then the user can close up the suit and put on the helmet.

To doff the armor, first the helmet is removed, then the chest is opened and the pilot should lean as far forward as possible and free their arms from the armor's arms. Next the pilot can pull themselves up and out of the armor.

Controlling the Armor

The primary control method of the Molly is SPINE. Much like the Mindy 4, Type 33 Nekovalkyrja can operate the armor by instinct alone, though it should be noted that this does not grant instant mastery over its systems. Alternatively, pilots with analog (non-digital) brains can connect to the Molly via Direct Neural Interface using the SQUID system provided by the KAIMON interface.

Control of the Molly can be further enhanced for pilots with digital brains via the Project THOUGHT technologies and features included in the armor, including the Immersion System, polyphonic quad-crystal Crystalline Audio Sensor Array, 'skin vision', and yet more. While these functions are often too demanding for average users, Type 33 Nekovalkyrja can progress towards becoming proficient in them faster than non-Nekovalkyrja pilots.

Ownership Restrictions and Security

Molly power armors are considered to be the property of the Star Army of Yamatai. Accordingly, the Star Army is extremely vigilant in ensuring that units remain in their possession or failing that, are destroyed. All Molly units are linked to the SACN Encryption System. Upon reaching the Red Untrusted status, the armor may self-destruct should certain conditions be met.

Systems

The sub-components of the Yu-M1-2B Series “Molly” Light Mechanized Power Armor include the following:

Of particular note, the Molly shares a great deal of parts and systems commonality with the Mindy 4, easing the strain of logistics and repair.

Armor

The spaceframe and armor plating is based on the older Shouri Multi-layer Hull and Frame Construct Type 1B Assembly, primarily made of lightweight Durandium Alloy. It is enhanced with an inner layer made of layers of Dataweave sandwiched between Kinugoshi-ko, with an innermost lining of Self-Regenerating Fabric Coating (SRFC) allowing for both fabric repair and wound patching, while still capable of wicking sweat.

Much like the Mindy 4, the Molly is rated to withstand the demands of space travel and atmospheric reentry. In doing so, it is capable of protecting the pilot from radiation, micrometeorid strikes, heat, and other cosmic hazards. The Molly is also rated to protect the pilot from CBRN threats.

Stealth and Camouflage

The Molly's outer shell is impregnated with transparent Xiulurium layered over Omnihue allowing the pilot or onboard AIES to change the color of the surface. This provides integrated optical camouflage, high visibility mode, stealth field generation or Star Army livery, without repainting. The Molly's default color scheme is Star Army Cadet Blue and Periwinkle, with glowing cyan highlights.

The armor is constructed with a deliberate eye towards minimizing its auditory signature. The plating is arranged constructed to reduce contact between plates, even during intensive movements. In addition, the hemosynthetic interior insert serves to reduce sound output, making the Molly a relatively quiet machine.

The Molly enjoys the full functions of the Azure I Series Anti-Gravity System. Accordingly, the Molly can use the Azure I's signature reduction systems to nullify its gravitational and mass distortion signature, rendering the power armor effectively invisible to mass, electrogravitic, and gravitational sensors.

Keg'sta Heat Management Device

The Molly is the first Star Army power armor to be equipped with the Keg'sta Heat Management Device. Comprised of a network of tiny pipes, tubes, and heat sinks, the Keg'sta Device uses the infrastructure of the Molly's aether generator to siphon heat and other waste products back into the Aether, thereby minimizing the power armor's heat signature.

Life Support

For the primary life support functions, the Molly uses the Ke-M2-F4300 Hemosynthetic Interior Insert. The armor can support a pilot for up to 15 days before replenishment is needed, or up to 10 years in stasis. If needed, the Molly can filter outside air to replenish its supply (not usually done until absolutely necessary, though). The Molly also features inertial compensators to protect the pilot from g-forces.

To ease treatment of a wounded or debilitated pilot, the Molly has a number of injection ports located at various point on the armor, which line up with select regions of the pilot's body.

Power Systems

The Molly uses a stealthy, compact Aether Generator for power. For protection against detection and interference, a sandwiched layer of Xiulurium set over and one-atom thick Zesuaium coats the aether generator, taking advantage of Zesuaium's inert qualities against heat and electromagnetic forces (thereby eliminating the aether generator's heat signature) and the protective, anti-aether interference stealth field generated by Xiulurium.

  • Battery Capacitors: Provides backup power for 48 hours of minimal operation, 18 hours of moderate-load operation, and no less than 3 hours of intense operation under high-speed maneuvers, full-power shield deployment, maximum-power weapons fire, heavy ICFS usage, and similarly demanding activities.

Photonics Array

The Molly replaces the Solid Volumetrics used on the Tenshi II with the Photonics Array used on the Mindy 4. The latter system has the same functionality as the former, but with the added benefit of systems commonality with the Mindy 4.

The Molly's cutting-edge photonics projection system has emitters in several places around its chassis. It can project volumetric displays for supplemental interactions with KAIMON or other computers, or to allow others the same. It can also use this system to project protective barriers, holographic or solid camouflage or disguises, or to create simple, ad-hoc hand tools, freeing them of the need to carry basic tool kits.

However, it should be noted that the Molly is unable to use photonic barriers and the ICFS at the same time, since the fields generated by the ICFS will disrupt photonic projections.

Propulsion

The Molly replaces the Mizu II Series - Amadare II CDD with the ICFS, maximizing the FTL CDD performance at 2,500c. The ICFS can also be used for sublight propulsion, up to 0.425c.

In addition to the ICFS, the Molly variant is upgraded with two Hoshi III Series Multi-Stage Turbo Aether Plasma Drives for sublight speed, located in the wings of the armor. Sublight performance for the aether plasma drives usually can withstand up to 0.425c. Supplemental maneuvering engines are provided by the Aether Plasma Projection System. However, like many Yamataian designs, the TAP drives and maneuvering engines burn “clean” aether by filtering out harmful antimatter and radiation when necessary. As such, full power to these drives can be safely deployed in atmosphere without compromising local ecosystems or atmospheric health. However, the weaponized emitters of the aether plasma projection do not filter out antimatter or radiation and instead draw raw or “dirty” aether to deliver as condensed potentials towards hostile units.

Optionally, the Molly can install a Yumeoibito - Mini Hyperspace Fold Drive, though this will take the armor's dorsal hardpoint.

The Molly also has an Azure I Series Anti-Gravity System which runs at all times.

In its stock configuration, the Molly can descend to a maximum depth of 500 meters underwater. With the Umikagami Subsurface Operations Suite installed, the armor can descend at least 6000 meters underwater, with the additional benefit of subaquatic sensors and improved underwater propulsion systems.

Finally, the Molly is capable of Boost Skating2), a maneuver where the armor sets its feet in contact with the ground, while using its propulsion systems (ICFS, Hoshi III Series Multi-Stage TAP Drives, and/or Anti-Gravity System) to “skate” along the ground. This maneuver is enabled by the MIARA Ground Mobility System, which reduces (or increases) friction as needed to facilitate movement and control.

Sensors, Communications, and Electronics

The Molly runs Armor Integrated Electronics System (AIES) as a primary system, with KAIMON-Passage relegated to a secondary role. It also has the uplink and PANTHEON/SYNC connect module. Via cooperative engagement networking, the Molly can share and receive sensor and targeting data from friendly units in real-time, enhancing the armor's battlespace awareness.

Defensive Matrix

Networking the Molly's electronic warfare, fire control, sensor, electronic, and integrated weapon systems, AIES is capable of protecting the armor via an omnidirectional defensive matrix, enabling automated point-defense and ECM capabilities. The matrix can manifest these systems in a wide range of applications, including, but not limited to, utilizing outgoing graviton pulses to physically repel incoming warheads, scalar pulses to dud the electronics of enemy missiles, generating automatic targeting solutions on enemy ordnance so that the pilot can shoot them down, or automated ECM activation in response to enemy lock-on attempts. Given these automated defensive capabilities, the Molly can free up the pilot's attention to focus more on offense, rather than defense. Naturally, the defensive matrix's settings can be altered based on the parameters of the engagement or by the pilot directly. They can account for the presence of unarmored civilians or allies, changing outputs or options as needed in order to avoid friendly fire or unfortunate accidents. In addition, the various systems comprising the defensive matrix have the option of being operated manually, should the pilot choose to do so.

Electronic Warfare Suite

The Molly is equipped with Star Army Electronic Warfare Suite, Type 44, the Star Army of Yamatai variant of the ELECTRA system. The Type 44 EWAR Suite is capable of communicating and coordinating with the onboard ICFS, enabling the functions of the latter to be used to enhance the former and vice versa.

For use during full ICFS stealth (when the Molly is fully hidden within its bubble plane) the sensors are augmented with a Transmetaphasic Quantum Particle Wave Remote Detection Device (RDD). Carrying out passive observations through linked quantum particles, the RDD can track, detect, and observe mass and energy signatures. The AIES can also extrapolate the shape and position of mass and energy signatures to the pilot while they are inside of the bubble plane, allowing them to observe real space. This system has a maximum range of 2,000 km.

Optics and Audio

The Molly features an optical and auditory sensor suite which has all the functions of the corresponding systems used in the Kirie Thought Armor. These systems include a polyphonic quad-crystal Crystalline Audio Sensor Array, optical tracking and panoramic 'skin vision' via the Omnihue, and primary and secondary optics for secondary functions, and other features of the Immersion System.

Sorakagami

The Molly includes the Sorakagami Aerospace Operations Suite integrated from the factory.

Weapons

The Molly's integrated weapons system is its Aether Plasma Projection System, but it is not usable without an emitter. Emitters may be placed on hardpoints, and come in two sizes. The Aether Plasma Cannon mounts to a shoulder mount, and the Aether Plasma Gun mounts to the forearm.

Hardpoints

The Molly was designed with modularity in mind. The modular mounting system is compatible with all power armor accessories produced by Yugumo Corporation, Ryu Keiretsu, and all Mindy Accessories without adapters. Adapters are available for Origin Industries and Galactic Horizon accessories for 100 KS per hardpoint.
