The Izanagi dreadnought is a massive and powerful anti-fortress assault platform. It first saw deployment within the Star Army of Yamatai during YE 39-YE 40. The warship class is named after a dimly remembered deity from ancient Yamataian mythology.
The Izanagi-class is the largest space-faring warship currently constructed by Ketsurui Fleet Yards, and its design is the result of eight years of combined effort with that company and the rest of its parent corporation the Ketsurui Zaibatsu, the Star Army Research Administration, and more than two dozen additional contractors from across the Yamatai Star Empire, including both the Tamahagane Corporation and the Murasaki Keiretsu. The security surrounding the development of the design project was extremely tight and highly compartmentalized in order to prevent security breaches through the civilian organizations also contributing to the project.
On its own, the Izanagi-class boasts greater offensive power that most Star Army task groups, and was initially intended to combat the warships of the Mishhuvurthyar and allow the Star Army forces to take the fight back to enemy occupied territory during the course of the Second Mishhuvurthyar War. The primary prospective targets would have been Mishhuvurthyar-held planets, fortresses and shipbuilding facilities, and it was deemed that the Izanagi-class would need not only the firepower to annihilate such targets, but also the additional resources and facilities to support a large fleet of ships operating deep behind enemy lines for a protracted period of time.
Essentially, the idea behind the Izanagi-class was to create a mobile weapons platform capable of engaging star fortresses and other similarly powerful space-borne fortifications with a minimal of risk to the rest of the Star Army's fleets and assets. Thus it is equipped with a plethora of state-of-the-art weaponry which gives the Izanagi-class wields as much firepower as several Sharie-class battleships combined.
In order to offset the cost of creating, maintaining and operating such a large warship, the Izanagi-class was also designed to be useful in more roles than just deep-space combat, fleet command and leading offensive actions. The ship is equipped with a complete shipyard, in addition to maintenance and fabrication facilities mounted onto its ventral hull section. These allow the Izanagi to function effectly in a support or construction role, serving line battleships as a deep-space repair vehicle or providing the Yamatai Star Empire and Star Army of Yamatai with a construction platform to build new facilities and fortresses at locations outside their presently occupied territory.
The following lists the mission specialization of the Izanagi-Class Dreadnought
The appearance of the Izanagi-Class Dreadnought is described and depicted below.
The overall external shape and design of the Izanagi is reminiscent of both the Star Army's Yamato-Class Flagship and the Sharie-class Battleship, borrowing and combining some of the features of both warships. As with its predecessors and most other Star Army vessels, the ships most distinctive feature is its main weapon array; a structure taking up nearly two-thirds of the Izanagi's total length, its surface bristling with turrets and other heavy weaponry.
Located in the upper dorsal section is the ship's primary command and control compartments, sensor systems, and crew facilities. Centrally located are the ship's main docking cradle for servicing other warships, fabrication bays, and storage compartments. Located toward the stern of the ship are four large hangar bays capable of providing berths for warships up to cruisers2) in size3), in addition to eight turbo aether drives used as a secondary means of sublight propulsion.
The Izanagi's port and starboard 'wings' and the attached hangar bays primarily serve as berthing, maintenance, and support facilities for several wings of aerospace craft, both for space and planetary combat. To the rear of each of the wings are another pair of large aether drives for sublight propulsion. Interior sections of the 'wings' also house the Izanagi's Integrated CFS arrays; which serve both as a means of defense and as the ships primary means of sublight propulsion.
The history and background of the Izanagi-Class Dreadnought is detailed below.
Initially intended to be utilized during the Second Mishhuvurthyar War and any in any future conflicts with the Mishhuvurthyar, the development of the Izanagi-class dreadnought slowed down after the end of the war. However, development on the Izanagi-class was renewed with the emergence of the Kuvexian threat and the ominous implications of a war with an interstellar kingdom that utilized aetheric energy at an advanced and proficient level. The need for a deep space assault platform, mobile shipyard, and, fleet command dreadnought became more evident as the Kuvexian War progressed into its early stages.

The Izanagi has 4 large 'hangars' towards the rear of the ship, capable of each berthing a single Sharie-class Battleship or four Super Eikan-class Heavy Cruisers. Standard practice is to have two of the hangars holding Sharies, and two of them holding Super Eikans, allowing the Izanagi to carry its own escort fleet.
The Izanagi has 4 large 'hangars' towards the rear of the ship, capable of each berthing a single Super Eikan-class Heavy Cruiser or four Urufu-Class Light Cruisers. Standard practice is to have two of the hangars holding Super Eikans, and two of them holding Urufus, allowing the Izanagi to carry its own escort fleet.
