Pilot Sustainment Locker, Type 45

Developed initially for the Nagamaki, the Type 45 Pilot Sustainment locker is intended to help support and sustain a fighter or shuttle pilot on extended missions, up to two weeks without needing replenishment.

History

In early YE 45, during the development of Origin Industries' Nagamaki heavy fighter, the problem of how to sustain a pilot on the longer scouting missions it had been designed for was presented. In response, a small, multi-purpose locker which could sustain a pilot for up to two weeks without taking up a huge amount of space in the cockpit was devised. Going through several revisions, Five issues were identified that needed solutions: Food, Water, Hygiene, Waste, and creature comforts.

Description

The Pilot Sustainment Locker, Type 45 takes the form of a small locker, typically embedded into the side or wall of a cockpit, which can be either slid or swung open, depending on space constraints. Inside are several smaller compartments which contain the following:

  • A Small Jerrycan of water, which is is refilled by the ship's Life support system. This Jug is typically connected to a port in the locker, and can be accessed via a hose that is compatible with the Star Army Aerospace Flight Suit, Type 32's helmet port.
  • A Disposal hatch which connects to the ship's Nodal Liquid Conduit System, and is used to recycle waste
  • A small hot/cold beverage maker, which can synthesize ingredients from components found in the NLCS and can brew nearly any flavor of non-alcoholic, non-carbonated beverage. The maker also creates and dispenses single-serving cups, which are biodegradable but may be disposed of by tossing them into the disposal hatch.
  • A Small shelf which can be used to store a datapad, book, or small handicraft items such as painting supplies or modelling supplies1)

Usage

Used by pilots of fighters or shuttles which do not have the room for such amenities as a wardroom, restroom, or recreation room, the Type 45 Pilot Sustainment locker helps provide for the needs of a pilot, allowing them to take on longer missions with a modicum of comfort. typically found on small craft that have extended ranges without much additional space, they can however be found anywhere the need to sustain one person for a couple of weeks is present.
