Kenta stands at 6' tall, his body quite muscular for a Minkan due to his history of hard, physical working on farms and in the colonial construction industry. He has a well-tanned, ruddy complexion, with sun-kissed sandy blonde hair that is often worn short and messy. His facial expression and brown eyes can be said to be very telling of his mood. While on duty he is seen in the typical red-paneled garb of a rank-and-file Star Army technician, albeit a little rumpled from him occasionally fidgeting with it, along with a well-worn pair of practical Star Army Cargo Pants, Type 22. He's not shy about ditching the constricting uniform when he can, though, often enjoying the outdoors or working out in the gym shirtless.
Honest and blunt, sometimes dense/simple-mided, hard-worker, confident/positive, tough guy with big brother tendencies. Likes to go by “Ken” with his friends.
Originally born Hatake Kenta in YE 22 on the planet of Anisa System, the oldest child of two Yamataiian terraforming specialists who were among those involved in first helping make the planet into the thriving breadbasket of the Empire it is today. Life was hard, but peaceful, under the watchful eyes of the then Third Expeditionary Fleet which was also headquartered there. However, when he was 6, things began to change as his parents's duties took them to a new destination for colonization, as many of the clan prepared to leave behind the family residence at Anisa in YE 28 to move to the frontier system of Taiie. The goal was to create a place suitable for the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet to base out of, as well as a testbed of the Katsuko-Class Colony Installation deployment, and the bustling coastal city of Seijin no Umi that arose out of these efforts was truly a wonderful place. Yet, that brief fantasy was not to last, for in the following year of YE 29 a huge battle erupted in the system as forces of the Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp (SMX) sought to annihilate the entirety of the 5XF. This bloodbath culminated in the destruction of the planet itself at the hands of the SMX's devestating Shlarvasseroth-class Flagship, leaving nothing behind but the broken remnants of the forlorn Taiie Nebula.
Having only barely escaped with their lives, the surviving colonists of the Battle of Taiie soon sought out a new home in the far-flung Yugumo Cluster, eventually landing on the coast of Jiyuu III. It was here that Kenta's parents began their work anew once more, helping give rise to the new, more centrally planned megacity that would eventually become the capital Tokyo in YE 30. The political situation in the cluster became tense soon afterward, as the fledgling planetary government declared independence from the Yamatai Star Empire to become the United Outer Colonies. This didn't effect the business of the Hatake family, however, as they continued their work of completing Tokyo to be able to stand forever as a beacon of freedom and hard work for others to aspire to. Many of Kenta's best childhood memories were made during this time in the big city, as he played amidst the vibrant streets of District ## with the other colonial children with a reckless joy that only a young boy could have.
Unfortunately, these dreams of peace were once again set to be shattered in YE 32 by the shadow of the greater Second Mishhuvurthyar War, when a simultaneous communications blackout engulfed Jiyuu and a large NMX armada began the orbital bombardment of the planet. Having experienced the cruelty of the Mishhuvurthyar once before, and hearing conflicting reports about the directions of their political leaders in the attack, Kenta's family was thankfully well prepared with an escape plan that was enacted. However, on the mad dash for their escape shuttle, a group of United Outer Colonies Peacekeeping Forces that were ostensibly providing covering fire at the spaceport from the attacking aliens suddenly and inexplicably turned their E1 Energy Pistols on the fleeing civilians and sprayed them with gunfire as if to prevent them from leaving. He and his younger sibling Aiko remember vividly the the strange black uniforms of the betrayers as they continued to run at the urging of their mother and father's voice, only for their parents to take the hits for the children and fall to the tarmac only meters away from the boarding ramp. Kenta screamed out their names through tears as the airlock of the Journey-Class Shuttle sealed and the tiny, cramped spacecraft rocketed off into the black through the chaos.
Things had eventually come full circle it would seem, as the Jiyuuian shuttle with the remnants of the Hatake clan limped home to the farmlands of their first home on Anisa in YE 33 to pick up the pieces of their broken dreams. With his parents gone, Kenta and Aiko were thankfully spared the fate of other, less fortunate war orphans and taken under the wing of their maternal aunt Naoko, who had stayed planetside to tend the homestead and not left with her sister Hana for Taiie five years prior. Being a hale and hearty lad, the now 11 year old boy had his days of endless play in a cosmopolitan megacity soon replaced with hard life of a farmhand tending the rice paddies, and a contractor's helper building homes for fellow refugees that seemed to always be streaming in. It was around this time in YE 35 that the Juugoya Cooperative was formed, and his aunt's properties on the outskirts of the city of Tsukimi were bought out and conglomerated into some of the first large-scale sharecropper parcels. After spending his spare time hanging out with the older corporate maintenance and operator crews, the now tanned-skinned Kenta also discovered he had a talent with fixing machinery and relished any chance he could get to work on troubleshooting and tinkering with basic harvesting equipment.
However, things in the pastoral farming city began to heat up in YE 36 when the charismatic Mochizuki Shiori, a major original shareholder of Juugoya, began to give speeches to the refugee farmer communities with the prospect of a return of the diaspora to the lands of the Yugumo cluster, which had been declared open for resettlement by the Yamatai government. Many thousands of brave volunteers rallied to her banner, jumping on the opportunity for subsidized one-way flights back to their homelands of Tokyo and beyond. Kenta naturally wanted to go as well, however his aunt held him back for a time as he was not of age to be running off on his own just yet. It was difficult to return to his daily chores, though he used every opportunity to tune into the SANDRA news networks and track the rebuilding efforts alongside many of his countrymen, as well as the election of Shiori to Senator of Jiyuu in YE 37… this event would prove to be pivotal, as it showed that the firebrand's movement was successful in restoring Jiyuu's prestige to the galactic scene. After several heated arguments, Naoko finally conceeded to Kenta's wishes and allowed him to make the journey across space as long as he saved up for it with his own money, of which he had thankfully already been saving.
In YE 38, the now 16 year old Kenta debarked the StarChaser II Class Civilian Ferry at the Jiyuu Fleet Depot spaceport this time alone, with just a few belongings in a rucksack and the clothes on his back, but a burning desire to make a name for himself at last. Thanks to his recommendations from the workers he aided in Anisa, the teen thankfully had no trouble getting a job doing construction for the Juugoya Co-op, in exchange for room and board in district ## of Atarashi Tokyo, the fledgling new city. Though he enjoyed the abundance of opportunities and the beautiful coastlines there, a part of him longed to revisit the District that he used to call home in the still scarred “Furui” Tokyo. Thankfully, fate would go his way, as news of Kage Yaichiro and the Sunflower Corporation's efforts in YE 40 to remediate the radiation in the damaged megacity spread. However, they were in desperate need of workers to fill the ranks of the CAMIE M11 Construction Mecha engineering corps, and Kenta sure didn't hesitate to take the next high-speed train into the main megabloc with the intent of signing up. With his strength and experience he'd be a shoe-in!
And so for the next two years, he threw his well-honed muscles into his mundane assigned tasks, watching with satisfaction as the Tokyo megacity began to be revitalized, block-by-block. Progress was slow and steady at first, with fields of sunflowers marking where the decon teams had been… this soon gave rise to the citizens taking to calling it Himawari Tokyo, eager to cast off the scars and sins of the old moniker. Seeing the positive things he had wrought, Kenta finally understood in a deep way the real ideals of his deceased parents and their chosen path in life. Destruction was easy and painful… but building, that was hard, but in the struggle so much more rewarding. The symbol of the sunflower began to take on a deep meaning for his coming of age in that moment, and so he along with a few other refugee laborers swore an oath to change their family names to “Himawari” in honor of their newfound pride and purpose.
Thanks to his exemplary performance in service to the rebuilding of the planet, and the sudden manpower needs of the newly established First Expeditionary Fleet, the humble Minkan was among a group of several CAMIE engineers nominated for a scholarship into the Star Army engineers academy. Though it was a struggle for the not-so-book-smart Kenta, he powered through with the help of his friends and managed to graduate with the first class of YE 43. If this wasn't enough cause to celebrate, he soon became the envy of his classmates when it was revealed his initial duty assignment was aboard the YSS Mazu, commanded by Taisa Motoyoshi Kaoru, the daughter of Taisho Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko herself!
