The highest level of organization for the Star Army Rikugun, Armies and Area Armies are largely administrative organizations to enact the will of the Commander of the Star Army. An Area Army will typically have an area of responsibilities (AOR) the size of a region of space (Fleet equalizing), while an Army's AOR will typically be a single star system.

Area armies are commanded by a Chujo, while Armies are commanded by a Shôshô.

Area Armies and Armies have the same headquarters structure as a legion:

• Headquarters Battalion
  • G1 (Admin/Personnel)
  • G2 (Intelligence)
  • G3 (Operations)
  • G4 (Logistics)
  • G6 (Communication/IT)
  • G9 (Public Relations)
• Area Armies consist of 5 Armies while Armies consist of 5 legions.

The standard Star Army Legion contains the following occupations:

• Headquarters Battalion
  • Command Century
    • Area Army or Army Commander (typically a Chujo or Shôshô)
    • Area Army or Army XO (typically a Shôshô or Taisa)
    • Area Army or Army Senior Enlisted Adviser (Jôtô Heisho)
    • Headquarters Centurion (typically a Taii)
    • G1 Personnel Officer (typically a Taisa)
    • G2 Intelligence Officer (typically a Taisa)
    • G3 Operations Officer (typically a Chujo or Shôshô)
    • G4 Logistics Officer (typically a Taisa)
    • G6 IT Officer (typically a Taisa)
    • G9 Public Relations Officer (typically a Chusa)
    • 90 Enlisted personnel and Service Android, Type 36A "Emma" divided between the staff sections
  • Area Army or Army Band
  • Additional units may be attached as is required by the Star Army of Yamatai.
