Engineering Corps

The Engineering Corps, established in YE 42, is a pivotal division of the Mining Guild responsible for the design, construction, and development of advanced technology. From Power Armors and starships to space stations, orbital defense platforms, and electronic systems.

History

The Engineering Corps was first formed in YE 42 following the establishment of the New Dusk Conclave. Initially, the Government’s Department of Engineering had been responsible for creating technology for the Mining Guild. However, when the department decided to shift its focus to non-corporate products, the Mining Guild found itself facing a significant problem.

The leadership of the Mining Guild at that time, including Lady Nyx Pine (the Gynoid daughter of Jack and Isabelle Pine), CEO Astrid Kurosaki, and her twin sister and COO Aeta Kurosaki, recognized the need to maintain their technological development independent of government projects. This challenge was soon mitigated by Dr. Gideon Kross, a member of the Department of Engineering, who opposed the military direction of the department and decided to leave his position. Dr. Kross, who had a passion for building technology for the Mining Guild, was joined by many other personnel who shared his views.

With the considerable wealth the Mining Guild had accumulated, they were able to establish a corporate headquarters in Obsidian City and reorganize the engineers into the newly formed Engineering Corps. Aeta Kurosaki and Lady Nyx Pine took the initiative to create the Thinkers Group, a team of designers within the Engineering Corps responsible for creating new technology. This group, with the aid of AI, conducted extensive research to ensure the effectiveness and innovation of their designs.

The Beginning of Dracrei Shipyards

Two prominent members of the Engineering Corps, Dracule Alexander, a Human, and Rei Mikamoto, a Nekovalkyrja2), secured plans for a shipyard, which they began constructing in orbit around Sirris VI, a planet in the Sanctum System. This project eventually grew into Dracrei Shipyards, a subdivision specializing in the construction and maintenance of ships for the Mining Guild.

With the construction of Dracrei Shipyards in orbit around Sirris, the Mining Guild gained the ability to produce its own fleet of specialized vessels. This development was crucial in ensuring the Guild's independence and operational efficiency, as it no longer had to rely on external suppliers for its transportation and industrial needs.

Since then Dracrei Shipyards produced several key vessels that played critical roles in the guild's operations. The first of these was the Stork-class Personnel Transport Shuttle, designed exclusively to transport employees to various locations within the Mining Guild's chartered territories. Following this, the Magpie-class Industrial Cargo Freighter was introduced, functioning as a cargo freighter responsible for moving ore and, in some variants, mined ice from various mining sites. The most significant vessel developed by the shipyards was the Dragon-class Mobile Refinery, created to avoid establishing land-based refineries that could negatively impact the environment. Additionally, after the discovery of Draco Eridanus System, the shipyards constructed Station Omacron, which became the central hub for operations within the system.

Expansion to Kosuke Sector

The Engineering Corps of the Mining Guild had been a powerhouse of technological innovation and production since its inception in YE 42. Under the leadership of Dr. Gideon Kross and the talented engineers within the Corps, they had developed a vast array of technologies that powered the Mining Guild’s operations. From advanced mining equipment to starships and mobile refineries, the Corps was the backbone of the Guild's industrial might.

In end of YE 44, It was during this time that Yugumo Corporation, with which the Mining Guild had developed a friendly working relationship, extended an invitation to the Guild to join them on an ambitious journey to the Kosuke Sector, a distant region filled with untapped potential. This journey represented a new frontier, an opportunity for exploration, and the expansion of the Mining Guild's influence beyond the Kikyo Sector.

Dr. Gideon Kross, recognizing the significance of this opportunity, understood that the success of this venture would require a skilled contingent of personnel and cutting-edge technology to support the Mining Guild’s operations in the Kosuke Sector. The Mining Guild Contingent, as they would come to be known, would need to be self-sufficient and capable of establishing a foothold in this new sector, far from the established infrastructure of the Guild in the Kikyo Sector. He knew that only those truly dedicated and prepared for the challenges ahead should undertake such a journey. When several employees expressed their willingness to join the mission, Dr. Kross gave his permission, recognizing that these individuals would be instrumental in ensuring the success of the Mining Guild contingent.

YE 46 - A Year of Technological Expansion

In YE 46, the Mining Guild experienced a pivotal year marked by significant technological advancements, spearheaded by its Engineering Corps. The first major innovation was the development of the Sentinel-class Control Frigate, a remote control hub that allowed miners to operate robotic bodies in hazardous environments without the need for physical presence.

Following this, the Tyr MK 1 Power Armor was introduced, offering enhanced protection, mobility, and firepower. Complementing this was the creation of the Knights Shield system, designed specifically for the Tyr MK1, providing advanced defensive capabilities. Another breakthrough was the launch of the Polaris-Class Ultra Carrier, a starship carrier that significantly expanded the Mining Guild’s fleet capabilities.

The guild's advancements in artificial intelligence were equally impressive. The Orichalcum AI Suite was developed to replace and upgrade the existing AI systems across the guild’s operations. In addition, the The Defender Series of combat AI was created to bolster the effectiveness of the Night Guard Security forces. The AI used in Orerunner drones, which operate within the mines, was also enhanced, along with those for drones that generate water on desert planets and those used in exploration missions.

Finally, the Engineering Corps made a groundbreaking discovery with a new propulsion system and [materials:ultrite|Ultrite]], a newly discovered material. The year also saw significant upgrades to the Hercules-Class Exosuits, including the integration of advanced AI and improvements to the vehicles utilized by the Engineering Corps.
