Mining Guild Classification and Techniques

The Mining Guild Classification and Techniques page is a glossary of sorts that tables the names of things.

Guild Classifications

The Mining Guild has a unique classification and way of titling or naming their ships.

Class

Stork-class

Stork class was the name chosen for the Mining Guild’s personnel transports, because of a myth that silly parents tell their very young children. About this mythological bird that supposedly carry babies to new families, in this way, the Personnel Transports carry Miners to new worksites, a new “family” for the Miners to be in.

Magpie-class

The Industrial shuttle type starship the Mining Guild use is called the Magpie Class. The name came from the reputation that certain magpie have when it comes to shiny objects. Though the ore can be covered in rock and dirt clumps, they can also be shiny.

Dragon-class

Dragon-class are given the name to the Mobile Refineries because of the myth that some dragons hoard shiny metal objects. Because the refineries make metal and gems out of ore, it was thought the name would be perfect for the ships. Some Dragon-Class ships are even named after fictional dragons from various cultures stories.

One example of a Dragon-class was

Reforged Class

Reforged class was the dramatic name for the process of remaking old ships. These ships aren’t usually made from scratch, but using old hulls and ship parts. While this does save time on building from scratch, there is a delay as tech needed to be repaired in some cases.

One example of a Reforged-class ship was

Pegasus-class

Named after the winged horse.

Types

The ships use three types of ships and those are

Personnel Transports

As the name implies, Personnel Transports transport their personnel, mainly the Miners that work in the mines, or asteroid field. Though Overseers may also ride with the miners. These are minimally armed and mostly for defense.

Industrial Shuttle

Industrial shuttles are freight ships carrying cargo from one place to another. The shuttles are modular, and depending on what they are carrying, the name of the ship might change. It is capable of carrying Ore, water, seeds within its 8.2 meters tall, 250 long, and 90 wide barrels.

Mobile Refinery

Mobile Refineries are where the ore is smelted into the desired metal. For the safety of the environment, these are capable of moving off world, or at least move to a better position.

Prospecting and Exploration Ship

Purpose of conducting extensive surveys, prospecting for new mining sites, and exploring uncharted sectors of space.

Mining Techniques

Normal Mining

Mining Guild uses their ANT Power Armor to mine the ground, or asteroids looking for ore that can be taken back to a Magpie industrial shuttle, which carries it to a mobile refinery, and thus refining the ore into useful materials.

Ice Mining

Ice Mining uses their ANT power armor, as it provides an atmosphere for the miners to live in despite the environment around them being cold. The ANT’s mole claws have a much easier time of digging through ice than the dirt, though typically they may use the plasma cutter/torch to make things even easier.

Ice Mining facilities

These facilities, typically just stores the ice, and gradually allows heat to melt the ice, and then allow the melted ice to drain through filters to make it drinkable.

Lava Mining

Lava Mining is a third type of Mining Technique employed by the Mining Guild. It is primarily used on volcanoes and volcanic magma worlds.

Lava Mining Facilities

Unlike facilities on ice worlds or glacial biomes of certain planets, the facilities for these places are built differently. Not only in construction but also processes, as commonly, facilities should not be anchored to the magma’s floor, and should in fact have two routes of egress. One of the two is for specially made collector drones to drop off their mined magma for exoparticle extraction. The other route is for the facility’s mounted mining equipment to draw in local rock from the surrounding areas.

The extracted magma is also handled by Graviton beams which are capable of handling the extreme heat of the magma. The facility also has a dumping ground for depleted partially molten waste, however, the heat can cause damage to shields which causes for the constant need for repair and maintenance.

The top side of the facility is mostly refining equipment and orbital launch pads to export the refined kujium off world.

Terms

Charters

In the case of the Mining Guild being chartered to explore a star system like Draco Eridanus System, it means that the Guild has been given official authorization to conduct mining operations within that particular region of space.

These charters could outline various terms and conditions, such as the scope of mining activities permitted, environmental regulations, resource ownership rights, taxation, and other relevant aspects. The purpose of such charters is to establish a legal framework for the Guild's operations in the designated area, providing both rights and responsibilities to ensure orderly and regulated exploitation of resources.

By obtaining a charter, the Mining Guild gains legitimacy and legal protection for its activities within the specified star system. It also signifies recognition from the governing authorities, indicating that the Guild has met certain criteria or requirements to be entrusted with such operations.
