Fifth Expeditionary Fleet
The Fifth Expeditionary Fleet of the Star Army of Yamatai is an expeditionary fleet devoted to the colonization and exploration of new Star Systems. It is under the command of Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko. The Fleet is responsible for the colonization and exploration of many star systems. Its first term of service was between YE 28 and YE 30. It was re-established in YE 44.7 by Taisho Ketsurui Yui and once again placed under the command of Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko. 1)

5XF Mission
The Fifths Expeditionary Fleet's mission is to:
- Engage in combat with the Enemies of Yamatai.
- Deploy and coordinate in offensive and defensive strategies as a functioning arm of the Star Army of Yamatai.
- Survey and colonize (and/or terraform) new systems as feasible. Work in concert with the Department of Colonization.
- Test developing technologies.

The Taisho
The Taisho of the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet of the Star Army of Yamatai is Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko, a 24 year veteran of the Star Army of Yamatai. She returned to service in YE 44.7 after a short term as Imperial Premier of the Senate of Yamatai and is a former Empress of Yamatai. She specializes in colonization and exploration and has designed many ships for the Star Army of Yamatai both under Ketsurui Fleet Yards and her own corporation Yugumo Corporation.

Group Sorted Vessels
Main Expeditionary Battlegroup - Pioneer's Sword
The Main Expeditionary Battlegroup for the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet is called the Pioneer's Sword. The name gives a nod to the pioneering spirit of those colonists who are braving the mission to create colonies of the Yamatai Star Empire outside of the Kikyo Sector. The main battlegroup provides primary defense for the Colonization Initiative Alliance fleet and handles the role of fleet command for the other Expeditionary Strike Groups, Logistics Group, and Task Groups.
Expeditionary Strike Group - Lorrheim Expeditionary Strike Group
The Lorrheim Expeditionary Strike Group, is named after the YSS Lorrheim III and its series of proceeding starships. 13) The group is under the command of Shôshô Motoyoshi-Ieyasu Taro. The Expeditionary Strike Group carries out missions under the directive of 5XFCOMM as required.
Expeditionary Strike Group - Sapporo Expeditionary Strike Group
Named after the City of Sapporo on Jiyuu III, and the group's lead ship the YSS Sapporo. The Sapporo Expeditionary Strike Group serves as one of the at-ready combat strike groups within the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet.

Main Logistics Group
The Fifth Expeditionary Fleet's Logistics group is the in-fleet operation of Star Army Logistics. It has everything from the fleet's freighters to the agricultural ships which support the food and water supply of the fleet. Like the Task Group they are often pulled from to create Task Forces for the fleet.

- Shosa Yoshike commits treason and sabotages the Akuro and several other vessels in the fleet. Her and her supporters hijack several ships are eventually stopped thanks to the 17th Armor Wing.

YE 29
Ichiro Incident
- Taiie no Iori Incident: the KAMI unit of the Iori went mad and began infecting and killing the crew. Yukari Freeman, along with Hatsubutai Ayano, Corro Adlich and Rryuuza Kurodai, attempted to save the TaishoKetsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko while fighting the crew infected by the KAMI unit, which called itself Ichiro. However, they were not successful in freeing her.
- Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko is forced to kill Shimizu-Motoyoshi Akina (清水本吉明菜) during the infection and eventually frees herself.
- In the end, Ichiro fled to the 5th XF's flagship, the Akuro, in an attempt to attack the Nepleslian Star Empire. Along with Juro Ichiro, the attack was foiled and the flagship destroyed.

The Battle of Murf

- Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko arranges her own death unable to cope with the losses of Shimizu-Motoyoshi Akina (清水本吉明菜) and Corro Adlich.

Battle of Taiie
- Taiie is destroyed by the Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp (SMX) creating the Taiie Nebula. The fleet is nearly entirely destroyed during the battle.

Aftermath of the Battle of Taiie
- Survivors from Taiie are scattered across the Empire, including to Pisces Station where they are faced with harsh conditions under the command of Taisa Marina Arisa. Bad conditions create a feeling of separation between the ranks of the fleet and the Empire.

In YE 30:
Rise of the Bakufu
- Under the reigns of Koyanagi Mayumi the Fleet is restored and the Motoyoshi Bafuku increases its power adding tribute families from within the population of survivors of Taiie and the personnel of the fleet.
- The Tange, one of the tribute families within the Bakufu begins to gain power by concentrating high ranking members of the fleet into its membership.
- Motoyoshi Kiyoko becomes heavily influenced by the Tange, who have begun to voice treasonous opinions towards the Empire.
- The Fleet proceeds to Pisces Station to confront its commander about the treatment of Taiie survivors. Thanks to the involvement of Kessaku Irim a potentially volatile situation is adverted.
- Motoyoshi Tio among those recovered from Pisces.
- Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko is restored. Returns to duty after evaluation as commander of the fleet.
- Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko creates Motoyoshi Fleet Yards and Koyanagi Mayumi retires from the Star Army to take control.
Politics & Betrayals
- The Hanabusa Tributary commits treason to the Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp (SMX). Motoyoshi Kiyoko remains in contact with members of the tributary forming a secret alliance with a Ghost Mishhu named Angelica.
- The Bakufu continues to gain power.
- Yugumo Cluster colonized by the Fleet. Is made the new home of the survivors of Taiie and headquarters for the fleet.
- The Ascendancy-class Flagship, YSS Akuro III (Later UCS Akuro III) is constructed and launched.
- Tange-Katsura Ayana sent as representative to the Senate.
- The Fleet returns to Yamatai (Planet) and Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko becomes Empress of the Yamatai Star Empire.
Battle of the Great Lighthouse
- Connections grow between Motoyoshi Kiyoko, the Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp (SMX) and Hanabusa traitors. Efforts to investigate the connections are terminated when Koyanagi Mayumi joins the secret alliance and begins to plot against the now Empress Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko.
- The Free State is found to be conducting operations in Halna which is determined to be undermining the Empire's sovereignty.
- Ketsurui Yui is dispatched to the Great Lighthouse.
- Motoyoshi Kiyoko, Koyanagi Mayumi, and members of the Tange utilize the military action of the Empire to create feelings of no confidence towards Empress Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko and Ketsurui Yui.
- Motoyoshi Kiyoko leads a group of Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp (SMX) and Fifth Expeditionary Fleet ships to the Great Lighthouse to assassinate Ketsurui Yui.
- Empress Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko discovers her daughter's betrayal and dispatches the newly finished YSS Akuro III which assists Ketsurui Yui in dispatching the traitors.
Aftermath of The Battle of the Great Lighthouse
- Koyanagi Mayumi, Motoyoshi Tio, and elements of the Motoyoshi Bafuku utilize the Battle at the Great Lighthouse and the Freespacer Massacre and Related Battles as propaganda to trigger the treason of the fleet and colonies of the Yugumo Cluster creating the United Outer Colonies.
- In shame of her family's actions Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko steps down as Empress.
- The Fleet is disbanned and its assets are returned to the Empire and redistributed and/or mothballed.

Takeda Tachiko, the Chief Medical Officer of the YSS Yukika, was found in stasis by the YSS Eucharis where she had been since YE 29 after escaping the destruction of Taiie. Inside the stasis tube with Tachiko was the genetic survey of Taiie IV's biosphere, including the genetic code of its extinct flora and fauna.43)
