Aether Generator

Developed locally by Ketsurui Fleet Yards at some point after the Star Army of Yamatai's discovery of Aether in YE 20, the Aether Generator is an energy-providing device powered by Aether. It is the main power source for various factions like the Star Army of Yamatai and the Interstellar Kingdom Of Kuvexia.

History

When the Star Army of Yamatai discovered Aether in YE 20, it facilitated a massive leap in scientific understanding and military technology. The development of the Aether Generator was shrouded in secrecy and to this day the details of this initial research are sketchy beyond that Ketsurui Fleet Yards was responsible with direct oversight from the Army's highest echelons. One of the few downsides was just how obvious the technology was on sensors, but the gains far outweighed the risks and active stealth technologies could help mitigate this detection problem in certain cases.

The warships of the Star Army of Yamatai began to employ these limitless energy sources through their operations and developed materials, weapons, and propulsion systems based on their discoveries with the Aether Generator. The Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp (SMX) and successor NMX would also employ this technology against the Star Army, but it is not fully understood if their use of the technology was indigenous or due to obtaining intelligence on it from covert operations. In time, civilian corporations would also be able to employ Aether Generator technology, allowing it to spread throughout the Kikyo Sector.

During the Freespacer Massacre and Related Battles in YE 30, a “Glint” Type Daiclonius known as The Maras used an Aether Denial Wave on the forces of the Star Army of Yamatai. Antimatter power was employed as a backup, bute this flaw in Aether Generator design was revealed at that time.

YE 36, the existence of the Interstellar Kingdom Of Kuvexia became known. They also employ the technology and it is presumed that they either developed it independently or seized it from an unknown race that had previously done so.

In YE 38, a heavily improved and optimized Aether Generator was employed in the Ke-M2-4 Series "Mindy" Armor, which was not only more compact and efficient, but had Xiulurium shielding to protect against interference like the Aether Denial Wave which could disrupt the the Aether Generator's function. Aether Generators throughout the arsenal of the Star Army of Yamatai's warships would see this as a standard upgrade by YE 41.

As Xiulurium is a stealth material, this modification would have the added effect making the Aether Generators of the Star Army of Yamatai harder to detect even in typical operation and resolving one of the initial drawbacks of the design.

Function and Design

An Aether Generator's purpose is to create a rift in spacetime into a primordial universe with its own laws of physics to draw out radiation, electrons, positrons, plasma, and anti-plasma to power the systems to which the generator is attached. These different components of the Aether are filtered and sorted, usually by Combined Field System-based technologies, to avoid runaway antimatter reactions and radiation contamination as well as to suit the needs of the equipment the generator is powering. A regulated matter/antimatter reaction can also be allowed to occur with the materials claimed for a more uniform energy output in electrons if less diverse energy types are required.

Weapons can use various components of the aether independently, like positrons for positron weaponry, or all of them simultaneously as in the case of the Aether Shock Array. Propulsion systems like the Turbo Aether Plasma Drive or Multi-Stage Aether Drive typically use plasma and/or anti-plasma, plus some electrons for powering components. Typical ship systems can use electrons, and a Standard Star Army Fabrication Area typically uses matter derived from plasma and electrons.

As the system includes all the components of an antimatter reactor due to the nature of its function, it is possible to use antimatter stores as an emergency source of energy if required. It is also common for the Aether Generator to store processed aether or components of such in aether_capacitors for later use or to even out energy spikes when employed in larger systems. After all, drawing more out of an Aether Generator than it can handle providing is exactly how an aether_bomb is created.

Though some exotic and lost technologies such as the Aether Denial Wave have disrupted these systems in the past, and Aether Generators were historically very easy to detect if active obfuscation was not in place, the recent advancement of using the stealth material Xiulurium in the shielding of the Star Army of Yamatai's military reactors promises to resolve this problem in the field for that faction.

Appearance

Aether Generators are diverse in size and appearance. From the starship-grade units in a warship that can be 8 meters tall or larger, to the Power Armor-grade one built into the backpack of a Mindy, to the bulkier civilian equivalents, to portable mini-fridge or even lunch box-sized ones for emergency purposes; there are many degrees of variation and power output. There are routinely warnings posted somewhere on the device about the dangers of antimatter and radiation, the CFS components present, and a warning that only certified engineers and technicians should tamper with such a device.

“Hanako nodded, and went over to inspect the main aether generator. It was a two-story structure taking up the middle of the engine room, that resembled two tall, finely machined metal flowers facing one another. Each “petal” was a heavily armored panel that connected to the one beside it by means of a central Zesuaium frame. Three of the panels had been blown loose by the massive blast that anti-matter had caused during the battle. Hanako crawled up a warped ladder and took a look at the inside of the generator, where the dimensional energy was harnessed. Things weren't bad inside, considering the circumstances. It would probably run; it just needed the exterior panels replaced, along with its electronic control interface.”

A common theme, provided these components are not solidly encased in shielding due to not being field serviceable in many more compact cases such as for Power Armor, are the two polarized collectors facing each other. These each have multiple emitters around their edges in the form of prongs, petal-like panels, or other similar structures. The emitters on the outsides of the collectors help initiate and sustain the rift between universes while also guiding the Aether into the collectors once the rift is open by using magnetic fields. They also serve as radiation and containment shielding. The modulation of the size of the rift helps regulate how much Aether is drawn in, and a more intense blue-white glow between these emitters corresponds directly to more power being drawn in.

These collectors feed into chambers which use various forcefields and systems to filter or regulate the reaction of the various constituent parts of the Aether spectrum. A more simplistic system may directly feed its components from these chambers, especially if it is a system that has either a limited or constant power draw. Larger or more diverse systems, however, often feed into aether_capacitors before being used to power the rest of the system.

Availability

While mass produced and available for civilian purposes, there are assorted safety and anti-tamper measures for civilian versions of the technology so as to prevent their use as weapons or bombs. Civilian offerings are typically purpose-made and have limited capacity for use outside of certain parameters. Aether Generators are also not field serviceable except typically by trained engineers.

It is not possible to set a specific price point due to the fact that the size of Aether Generators varies so widely, though the price is typically quite high compared to more conventional options due to the complexity and construction of the system.
