Shimatani Takeo is a player character played by Sean_ODuibher and is currently involved in the YSS Relief plot.

Build and Skin Color: Takeo has somewhat darker skin than is the norm in the YSE, though it is by no means outside the bounds of variation within traditional Yamataian appearance. In a few places, particularly around his eyes, age lines are beginning to show. Of course these are not natural but rather are features from his old Geshrin body that he requested be transferred when he switched to the Yamataian body. Additionally, his body, while still fit and more than capable of meeting the demands of the Service, is not that of the near teenager held by most in the Star Army. Of course, he was far from old, even in his previous body, but his build still reflects an accumulation of years atypical among his contemporaries.

Facial Features and Eye Color: Aside from some of the signs of again, mentioned above, Takeo has a rather unremarkable face. In all aspects, from the curvature of his eyes, the fall of his nose, the size of his lips, he appears to be among the average of the Yamataian ethnic group. Even his irises are a somewhat mundane shade of dark brown.

Hair Color and Style: Takeo’s thick, deepest brown hair is worn in a very utilitarian close-cropped fashion, simplest for life aboard ship. Of note, though, are the few strands of graying hair, clustered particularly around his temples but peppered about his hair. Similar to his age lines, these are not natural but rather artificial replicas of his Geshrin body’s hair.

Distinguishing Features: The signs of age are somewhat unusual in a culture totally accepting of frequent exchanging of bodies, either by necessity or choice.

Perhaps the defining feature of Takeo's personality is his prudence. His friends credit this to a need for care and precision in accomplishing his goals; his detractors call it over-cautiousness or even, among the most caustic, cowardice. It is not that Takeo is scared of decisiveness in a pinch; rather it is that he avoids to the best of his ability situations where decisions must be based on assumptions or presumption lacking in evidentiary support. Additionally, Takeo is known to be kind and warm to those among his acquaintance, though he understands the dividing line where kindness must be cast aside and a harsher tone must be taken, particularly when handling subordinates. That is not to say Takeo is a saint; rather, while he usually can avoid it, when he loses his temper he becomes very quiet, very cold, and very angry. He understands that this can be detrimental in a position of command and as such, while happy to praise in public, always makes sure to dish out criticism – especially the sort that either calls for or may cause him to lose his temper – in private.

Born among the earliest Human, Takeo had a normal, happy childhood. He was eager to please his parents and all other role-models, emulating them at every turn as children are wont to do. His father, a safety engineer at an industrial manufacturing center, instilled in him the need for patience and diligence at all times. Relatively well educated and successful in the civilian world, Takeo's rather doting parents were quite surprised when, upon reaching his majority, he opted to enlist in the Star Army rather than continue his education. While they argued their resistance quite capably, Takeo was prepared and argued his insistence quite as well. In the end, they were forced to concede on the issue and sent him off to the military with a smile.

Takeo's career was unremarkable; his careful and precise nature worked well in his chosen occupation as an technician, though it meant his promotions, while steady, came slowly. It took him some time, thanks to a few commanding officers less than impressed with his “timid” approach, to reach higher NCO ranks. About that time, Takeo was quite fortuitously assigned to the maintenance crew at a logistics base. There, he was taken under the wing of a seasoned logistics officer; though he enjoyed his maintenance and repair work, he was persuaded that his talents were both needed and desired in logistics. His eye for detail and meticulous note taking soon earned him a reputation; his progression up the ranks increased somewhat in pace. As a warrant officer, he became relatively well known within the circles of inspector general teams as being a ruthless auditor. He fully expected to remain in that position for the remainder of his career, but a promotion to officer ranks change his course dramatically.

Thanks to a few excellent mentors, Takeo learned how to translate his focus and prudence into proper ship-handling skills, perfect for slower, unarmed logistics freighters, where having a multitude of plans and back-up plans was critical in surviving situations that such ships simply could not shoot their way out of. While pleased with his newfound success and happy to be commanding ships, he felt somewhat limited and began actively looking for placement outside of logistics. Though his fitness reports – all highlighting his cautious nature, for good or ill - most likely ruled out any chance of commanding a proper warship, he hoped for an assignment in a non-freighter auxiliary. Thus, when the opportunity finally presented itself Takeo quite uncharacteristically jumped at the chance.

Takeo boarded the YSS Relief to assume command in the early months of the Second Mishhuvurthyar War.

Takeo is familiar with basic radio operations and procedures and can make transmission to and receive transmission from others through headsets, starships, power armor, and shuttles in both combat and non-combat conditions. Takeo is fluent in Nepleslian and Yamataian, and has knowledge of a few traditional phrases learned from her parents. He can speak and write both correctly and efficiently and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc. In addition, he is skilled in communicating telepathically

Takeo received hand-to-hand combat training, followed up with a rigorous training program. He is skilled and experienced both in Yamatai-like conditions and in zero-gravity, with and without weapons. Weapons he is trained in include energy pistols, knives, and power armor.

Takeo is capable of operating any computer system that uses the Kessaku OS, found on all Star Army starships. He is proficient in entering and/or searching for information.

Takeo received basic mathematics training, including algebra, geometry, calculus, and more.

Takeo received education on topics including the history of the Star Army and legal theory and application in the Yamatai Star Empire during officer training.

Takeo received training in public speaking and making presentations.

Takeo retains skill in the areas of maintenance and repair from his time in the enlisted ranks. Of course, some of the modern equipment aboard currently serving starships is different from what he had occasion to repair in years past, but he understands the basic principals.
