The Type 45 Ration is a 24-hour ration used by the NMX beginning in YE 45. It consists of a box containing dried crackers, canned meat, and canned vegetable matter. It has an estimated shelf life of about 5 years.
The nickname for this ration is “5 cans and a bag of bricks.”
Price: The NMX Type 45 ration is worth about 9 KS.
Around the start of the Third Mishhuvurthyar War in YE 45, the NMX began production of a new field ration for its humanoid soldiers that was a little nicer than the NMX Field Rations, Type 34. It is somewhat similar to the NMX Field Rations, Type 31.
The ration pack consists of a cardboard box containing what is essentially a mustard colored wool sock full of 5 cans (with napkins mashed between them to prevent rattles) and a bag full of hard tack. The box is about the size of a small shoebox. The sock can be used to replace damaged boot socks in the field. The hard tack is equivalent to Star Army Kanpan.
The cans contain sausage, a Tushonka-style meat stew, Bean Cassoulet flavored with ham chunks, a vegetable puree made from from squash, pumpkins, carrots, etc., and pickles. The cans have pull tabs on them so they do not require a can opener. The sausage meat can come from a variety of sources including pigs and slaughtered Human captives.
The pack also includes some basic accessories such as instant Coffee, sugar, a packet of jelly, and a spoon for each meal.
The NMX have also developed a high-quality hot sauce that comes in this ration that has such an excellent flavor that it would likely do quite well on the commercial grocery markets if it was available there. Sometimes the hot sauce packets are used by NMX forces as impromptu currency for games such as poker.
Contents of the ration are listed below:
NMX personnel in the field are issued one of these packs per day.
The intended usage is to have one meat and one fruit of vegetable per meal:
The ration provides one napkin per meal plus two extra for other needs (e.g. as toilet paper). The hot sauce can be added to meals as desired.
