Night Guard Ares Combat Suit

The Ares Combat suit is a set of Hard Suit Armor used by the Mining Guild’s Night Guard Security. It is manufactured by the mining Guild for the use of their security team beginning late-YE 41 as non-power armor Security Armor. It had been updated in mid-YE 46 with new materials available.

About the Armor

The Ares Combat Suit, utilized by the Night Guard, is a specialized hard suit designed for situations where criminal activity is considered low-level. These scenarios typically involve petty thugs and minor offenders who do not have the backing or resources of interstellar nations. Despite its primary function in non-warfare situations, the Ares Combat Suit has shown remarkable versatility and adaptability, particularly since the integration of the superalloy known as Ultrite in the year YE 46.

Ultrite significantly enhances the suit's durability and resilience, making it capable of withstanding much harsher conditions and stronger impacts than previously possible. This addition allows the Ares Combat Suit to be deployed in more demanding situations, bridging the gap between its original design purpose and full-scale warfare applications. Although it is not classified as power armor, such as the Night Guard’s new Tyr MK 1 Power Armor, the Ares Combat Suit offers a substantial level of protection and utility.

The design of the Ares Combat Suit emphasizes mobility and flexibility while providing adequate protection for the wearer. Its hard shell is meticulously engineered to deflect ballistic impacts and reduce the force of blows, ensuring that operatives can engage with lower-tier threats effectively and safely. The suit includes integrated communications systems, allowing for seamless coordination among Night Guard members during operations.

Furthermore, the Ares Combat Suit is equipped with various tactical tools and gadgets tailored to subdue and capture rather than kill. These include non-lethal weaponry such as tasers, stun batons, and restraint devices, reflecting the Night Guard's mission to maintain order with minimal escalation. The suit's advanced sensors and HUD (heads-up display) provide real-time information on the surrounding environment and potential threats, enhancing situational awareness and decision-making capabilities.

In essence, the Ares Combat Suit is a versatile piece of equipment that allows the Night Guard to effectively handle a range of low-level threats. While it may not offer the same level of protection and offensive capability as the more advanced Tyr MK 1 Power Armor, the Ares Combat Suit remains a crucial asset in the Night Guard’s arsenal, particularly for maintaining peace and order in less volatile situations. The integration of Ultrite has only further solidified its position as a reliable and adaptable tool in the fight against crime.

Getting In and Out

Unlike power armor, which requires advanced technology to don and doff, the Ares Combat Suit is a hard suit designed for ease of use. The wearer begins by slipping their arms into the full-cover sleeves and pulling tight. This action triggers the rest of the armor to engage, starting with the chest piece and then the greaves, which lower themselves onto the wearer’s body. The pieces attach securely via magnets, sealing and locking themselves completely around the wearer.

Once the armor is in place, the wearer dons the helmet and closes the neck seal, resulting in a fully sealed suit. This comprehensive sealing mechanism ensures protection against extreme weather conditions, full water submersion, and zero-atmosphere environments, making the Ares Combat Suit highly versatile and reliable in various operational scenarios.

Systems

Here are the systems included in the armor.

  • Volumetric Display Module (arm): Mounted in the left arm to work in junction with the computer installed in this portion of the suit to display data to users.
  • Aurora Synaptic Controller Interface (helmet): Installed in the helmet to allow remote control of accessory equipment, remote support equipment, or issue commands to drone units.
  • A Heads up Display via the CoreLink Neural Interface interface. Allows only the Night Guard officer to see the what is shown on the display module.

Sensors and Communications

The Ares Combat Armor is equipped with an advanced system for threat detection, crime alerts, and reliable communication. This system ensures that the wearer is aware of potential dangers, can respond quickly to criminal activities, and maintains constant, clear communication with allies and support units.

Armor

The Ares Combat Suit was originally discovered on a ship from the Exodus fleet, making it similar to the armors used by the New Dusk Conclave. The suit is composed of three layers. The innermost layer consists of a blend of synthetic and organic muscles, combining synth muscle with Sirrisian ant musculature. This layer is sandwiched between layers of kinetic and energy-resistant gel.

Between each gel layer and the exterior are thin layers of nano-weaved Usonium., which was replaced by Ultrite in later versions of the suit. This multi-layered construction provides comprehensive protection against pistols, shotguns, SMGs, and fragmentation. The suit is also resistant to high-end energy weapons and rifles, though it cannot stop larger caliber rounds.

The undersuit is powered by bio-electrical energy converted from the wearer’s movement and body heat. The armor plates were originally made of Aegium, featuring slots at the back and sides for additional equipment required by the Night Guard operatives.

The helmet is fully enclosed and non-opening, with a visor designed as an armor shell. This shell has a false visor on the outside laced with optical sensors and an internal display. The suit has seals at every connection point, enabling use in zero-atmosphere environments and underwater.

Life Support

The life support system of the Ares Combat Armor is designed to ensure the survival of the Night Guard officer in various hazardous conditions. The first line of defense is the suit's seals, which protect the wearer from hostile atmospheres and underwater environments. This feature is crucial for defending against gas attacks that criminals might employ.

The suit includes an oxygen recycling system with filters that can last up to a month, ensuring that the Night Guard officer can survive even if trapped for extended periods. In case of damage or injury, nanomachines (nanites) repair the armor, and a sealant gel is applied to wounds, acting as a quick-healing salve.

The suit is temperature controlled to protect against extreme heat and cold, utilizing advanced materials and a network of thermal wiring. Additionally, for officers who are cold-blooded, the suit has a specialized system to maintain their body warmth, ensuring their comfort and functionality in all environments. For hydration needs, the Ares Combat Armor includes a specialized system that captures sweat from the wearer, whether human, near-human, or alien. This sweat is filtered multiple times to remove bacteria and other harmful substances before being stored in a dedicated tank. This system serves as a backup hydration source. The suit also has a separate main tank for drinking water, ensuring that the wearer has access to clean, safe hydration at all times.

Power Systems

The Ares Combat Suit’s systems are ingeniously powered by bio-electrical energy converted from the wearer’s movement and body heat. This conversion process ensures that as long as the wearer is active, the suit remains powered, harnessing the natural energy produced by their body. This self-sustaining energy system reduces the need for external power sources and allows for extended missions without frequent recharges.

In cases where the Night Guard Officer belongs to a species with unique physiological traits, such as those similar to electric eels that can generate electricity, the suit includes specialized systems to absorb and utilize this electrical output. These systems are designed to safely capture and store the electricity produced by the body, effectively turning the officer into a living power source and enhancing the suit’s energy efficiency.

To further ensure uninterrupted power supply, the Ares Combat Suit is equipped with redundant power systems that incorporate Plasma Power Cores. These cores are located within the back of the hard suit and serve as an additional energy reserve. The Plasma Power Cores are highly efficient and can provide substantial power to all suit systems, including life support, communications, and defensive measures, even in the absence of bio-electrical energy.

This multi-faceted power approach guarantees that the Ares Combat Suit remains operational in a wide range of conditions and scenarios. Whether relying on the wearer’s bio-electrical energy, the unique electricity-generating abilities of certain species, or the robust Plasma Power Cores, the suit ensures that Night Guard Officers have the energy they need to complete their missions effectively and safely.
