A simple finger-sized sensor, the AE-331 can be built from common off the shelf parts, with the exception of its quasicrystalline lenses. It is essentially a simple passive electromagnetic sensor – cameras of sorts, which see into the optical spectrum of light, parts of radio and some spectrum further above (including infared and x-ray).
It is designed to be used in rifle and cannon scopes in a low field of view or distributed over an armored platform or craft, for the images to be processed into a 360 surround image of what is happening around the unit.
Paired with LACRAMMS, it can become an active optical scanner.
