Instructors in the Scientific Studies Service (SSS) fill two roles but are ultimately part of the Gakuin (Academy).

The first role is the teaching of students at the Academy. Most of the time the instructor has one or more degrees in the field they are teaching. They are responsible for developing lesson plans, administering tests, setting up labs etc. Their curriculum must conform to the those set forth by the Yamatai Department of Education.

The second role is training the SSS Tanken: Hara (Field), Riezon (Liaison), and Tansaku personnel.
