This is Hyralt's opinionated guide to the Star Army of Yamatai. Because sometimes people just want some guidance.

The Mindy is the standard power armour for Star Army infantry. There are many options for weapons. Since this can be overwhelming for the newcomer (it was for me), here's my recommendation for where to start. You don't have to do this. You are free to do whatever you want. But if you just want your character to make a quick decision about what gun to pick up before a battle, here's what they might go with.

The Ke-M2-W2913 Aether/Scalar Submachine Gun, commonly abbreviated as the A/S SMG, is a versatile weapon. When equipped with a saber bayonet, it is powerful in close-quarters combat without sacrificing firepower.

In addition to the A/S SMG, there are a couple of other good options.

The Ke-M2-W2901 Aether Beam Saber-Rifle, usually just referred to as a Saber-Rifle, is much more capable at close-quarters combat (it has twice the blade of the A/S SMG bayonet!), but sacrifices firepower.

The Ke-M6-W2921 Atmospheric/Space Plasma Rifle, abbreviated to ASPR or just Plasma Rifle, is more like the kind of rifle carbine that troops get in most modern (real) militaries. It's fine. Just fine.

Notes:

• The CO should give some indication of what condition is active
• If the CO says “all hands” it already puts the condition above Condition 2 since everyone should be on duty
  • But it doesn't imply condition 1

• Although conditions 1 and 2 call for protective suits, by convention nobody wears them

As far as I can tell, everyone in the Star Army of Yamatai does 1 of 2 things in battle:

1. Actively command/operate a starship
2. Suit up in power armor and fight

There are no non-combatants. That said, this isn't a rule. It's just what other people do. Feel free to do whatever you want.
