The MS-L1-H3400 - Durandium-Kurokotetsu Structural Framework is method of starship and station hull construction that utilizes Kurokotetsu to build the majority of the major internal components with lesser elements being constructed of cheaper Durandium Alloy. This type of hull construction first became available in YE 36.

About the Durandium-Kurokotetsu Structural Framework

The hull is internally divided into numerous compartments, each of which contain components or provide space for payload. Compartments are physically separated by bulkheads, decks, and partitions. Decks are perpendicular to the onboard artificial gravity's downward axis, whilst bulkheads and partitions are parallel to it. More intuitively, one walks on the decks and opens doors set into the bulkheads and partitions. Bulkheads and decks are major structural elements, comprised primarily of Kurokotetsu. They are designed to withstand differences in air pressure on both sides. Partitions are simple walls, serving to divide compartment spaces without having to be airtight. Generally these structural components are built out of Durandium Alloy.

Corridors allow passage through a ship or station between different compartments. One can pass through bulkheads by means of pressure doors or hardened security doors. Maintenace conduits thread throughout all decks and are found hidden between the compartment bulkheads and deck plating of ships and stations, allowing alternative means of access to compartments, components, power feeds, fuel lines and other sub-systems. Conduits can be accessed via pressure hatches.

Airlocks are compartments designed to allow passage into or out of a ship or station from the hulls exterior. The exterior hull plating itself is comprised of kurokotetsu.
