A chemical substrate created at a terraforming facility which captures huge amounts of carbon and other non-desirable gasses which contribute to the greenhouse effect (essentially lowering the temperatures of 'venus-like' planetoids).

It was created in early YE35.

In addition, it acts as a thermal sponge, soaking up tremendous amounts of excess heat from an atmosphere, forcing global cooling to take place. Complete carbolite is recovered in atmospheric processors and either turned into useful energy or broken down and compressed into Carbolite Crystals.

Carbolite Crystals are essentially an ultra-dense form of carbon, nitrogen and other compounds such as heavy metals. It has a highly dense quasicrystalline construction and can be repurposed either as cheap digital processors or as an incredibly tough but disposable hull material surpassing the toughness of Structol.
