Chondrex

Chondrex is durable, flexible, fabric-like protective material with Commercial, Industrial, and even Military uses. It was first produced YE 45 by Origin General Manufacturing.

History

Designed in order to fulfill a similar role to the restricted Yarvex, Chondrex is a simplified version of this material which retains roughly 90% of its strength for roughly 50% of the cost. This substance took years of development to come up with, as the majority of attempts were too close to actual Yarvex to be considered a different material. Once the material was finally perfected, it underwent rigorous testing as well as numerous production trials to ensure that its design goals had been met, and only then was it approved for mass production and usage.

Description

Unlike the material it mimics, Chondrex does not permanently bond Quarks and Gluons together, but rather utilizes destabilized protons that create intensely powerful bonds with like protons. The resulting proton mesh, while not inseparable, is incredibly strong and resilient against attempts to pull apart or otherwise separate- These however can be physically cut by outlying materials such as Zesuaium, or high strength materials with monomolecular edges or other defining features that make them more likely to be able to cut than more traditional materials. Chondrex can be considered cut-proof (except in the aforementioned circumstances), as well as bulletproof, although like Yarvex it doesn't do much against kinetic energy.

Typically, Chondrex is found as a fabric-like material, but due to its nature must be created in its final shape, or processed with industrial Zesuaium equipment, but it can be found in thicker, harder forms when layered together or created as such.

Usage

Chondrex is best used as a protective layer as part of an armor system, or as a durable flexible joint protection device, it can be used industrially in protective gloves and aprons, or impregnated into other materials to increase their strength and resilience. Chondrex can be a low-cost alternative to Yarvex, or a more effective replacement to Aramid fibers in many systems.
