Tsenlanese General Social Norms and Struggles

In YE 44, following the Craethel War the people of Tsenlan came to the Kagami Galaxy and joined the Yamatai Star Empire. The article below will focus on topics of their society's normal culture and issues their society finds they struggle with.

Manners and Etiquette

Norians that are considered polite and of good social standing follow a few basic behaviors:

  • Respect should always be given to Senior Adults and Elders - Being polite at presented opinions, refrain from foul language and emotional outbursts, waiting for input ahead of adding your own.
  • Ysi should always take priority when planning social gatherings or events. When away from Ysi it is standard to frequently communicate.
  • Conversations held within Vesper Links always take priority to those communicating verbally.
  • Public displays of affection are perfectly normal and acceptable.
  • Living spaces and public spaces are judged based on their cleanliness; the perception of something being dirty can result in long-term resentment and even public embarrassment.
  • Matters involving Phaloam (Philosophical debate) take priority over other conversation topics.
  • Trade should be spoken when in the presence of those who are not from Tsenlan.
  • Shoes and Footwear should always be removed when entering the household.
  • Soldiers are held in high regard, so those who fought in the MERN to those who now join the Star Army of Yamatai are given a highlighted level of respect.

Eating and Drinking

Etiquette involving eating and drinking should be held to as follows:

  • Eating and walking at the same time are considered rude.
  • Utensils should be utilized when eating food.
  • Those who have chosen to adapt to consuming an omnivore diet should refrain from eating meat or flesh in public.
  • Senior Adults and Elders should always be served first.
  • The consumption of alcohol is considered acceptable in social settings. Becoming intoxicated should not be done in front of Senior Adults and Elders.

Social Struggles

The History of the Norian People and Nations tells a story of recent hardships for the people of Tsenlan, some topics remain highly controversial and represent larger encompassing issues in their society.

Where are you from before?

The topic of the people of Tsenlan coming from another universe is not discussed in the presence of outsiders, save for the few in the Star Army of Yamatai who have the required clearance. When asked about their previous home, people will often reply to the inquiry by merely stating that their ancestral home is far away. It is actually illegal to discuss openly and can lead to criminal charges and detainment through a restricted court or transfer to the authority of the Star Army of Yamatai.

Loss of Sovereignity

Some Tsenlanese find the topic of their people's loss of sovereignty and their place as a state of another nation sensitive. Often times these conversations will highlight the compassion of the Yamatai Star Empire and will focus on the benefits the arrangement has created over any drawbacks. The Norians tend to be a very proud people so over-compensating may happen when justifying topics related to this one. Overall though they are pleased with the arrangement and take refuge in the maintenance of the Tsenlan State Quorum as their local government.

Technological Responsibility

Technological development is a bit of a hot topic in Tsenlan. Having been a time when they were at a very high technological plateau and the dangerous results of it often bring additional oversight to the development of some technologies. Anything related to the siphon of dimensional energies and plasmas usually creates a certain higher degree of caution into play after the result of their use of Asune Energy and the catastrophe of the Void Wars. Individuals may seem a little hesitant to believe that Aether is safe, maybe requesting lodging away from aether power sources when possible. Most, however, will do their duties without the fuss trusting in the Star Army of Yamatai.

Any rouge development of Asune Energy technology is strictly prohibited by the Tsenlan State Quorum.

Former Practices of Xenophobia and Slavery

The reformation of the Tsenlanese Religion in YE 44 was very recent. There are some within Tsenlan who may cling to the ideals of xenophobia and enslavement of other species and use of racist language such as Cli'cha 1). In general though most have readily accepted the reformations with open arms and support.
