The 5-inch naval autocannon is the smallest of the ship-mounted automatic cannons produced by the Iron Company for its combat vessels. First appearing introduced to Kikyo in YE 44 it is a reliable and relatively effective weapon.

The 5-Inch naval autocannon has served as the standard poking stick of smaller vessels in service with the Iron Company, or serving as a backup weapon for its larger ships. It originally started life as a simple tank cannon, but with a few modifications, including lengthening the cartridge, adding a rapid-fire mechanism, and a few adjustments to the materials it was made from the cannon was made service-ready in YE 43, before reaching full production. While it is the smallest of three variants, it is simple, cheap, and reliable for fighting vessels of equivalent or smaller for light vessels.

Multiple ammo types also provide additional flexibility to the weapon and give it a few options for dealing with various targets. Serving in nearly every conflict the Iron Company has been a part of, it has proven to be a fairly reliable, rugged, and effective piece of hardware. It is one of those weapons that proves that for all the advancements in technology, sometimes the simple solution is often the best.
