The “Barkskin” spray is a defensive tool made by Iemochi Innovations & Sales. It was designed as a spray-on defensive coating that can be applied to both organic and nonorganic material. It is made of ADNR (Aggregated Diamond Nanorods) mixed with a strong adhesive and prevents penetration by sharp implements. It provides no substantial protection against blunt force. The mixture is coloured and textured to be similar to bark, as to provide camouflage where necessary.
“Barkskin” was designed in YE 44 by Iemochi Innovations & Sales. It was intended for usage to be sprayed on individuals in high risk jobs, over their spinal column and arterial weak spots, with a helmet being worn alongside. This was later expanded to be a general agent for increasing the survivability of any product. It is usually sold in compressed canisters but IIS soon began offering services to spray large items like starships at their stations. Once released, there was a popular trend of spraying the product on actual trees to frustrate lumberjacks.
“Barkskin” is used for general personal defence, or hardening of products that could benefit from it. The camouflage properties are also of benefit in a number of scenarios.
Here is the data regarding the entity which created and manufactures this item.
“Barkskin” appears very similar to tree bark of various natural colours once applied. When applied, it takes a few seconds for the mixture's adhesive to harden, during which time it appears shiny before drying into a matt texture. It is sold in traditional pressurised aerosol canisters which contains enough mixture for a handful of meters squared of application. For larger applications, IIS provides services to do that.
Here is the information regarding the Barkskin's marketing values.
The user shakes the canister to prime it for even application. The user removes the cap, then directs the nozzle to the surface which the mix is to be applied to. They then press the cap and apply an even coat. After waiting a few seconds, the adhesive hardens and the application is complete. To remove the mixture, a skin-safe solvent is also sold which cancels the adhesive properties and allows the Barkskin to be washed or brushed off.
See Damage Rating (Version 3) for an explanation of the damage system.
