Mizumitsu Benji is a tall and muscular man due to his heritage. Standing at 6'4“, Benji is 75kg and is often joked about behind closed doors as looking like a living marble statue with facial hair. With flawless flesh-colored skin, his chiseled face is augmented with grey-blue eyes and black hair. Depending on his mood, he will occasionally grow a well-groomed beard and mustache.
True to his Elysian roots, Benji has a number of tattoos that he keeps hidden when in uniform. One dominate on his back is of Yamataian style tattoos depicting an Elysian and a red-crowned crane flying together.
Voice: Deep and profound when he chooses to project his voice. For example, passionate motivation speeches and issuing commands.
An Elysian by birth, Mizumitsu Benji is a stoic but prideful man. Not displaying what he truly feels has saved him many times with dealing with Nekovalkjya supremacists he occasionally finds himself serving under. It also allows him to keep his mind clear when doing what Elysians are also known for, guiding those under them in a form of compassionate dictatorship. For those that are close to him, Benji allows himself to properly express his emotions. Those that only know his professional side find this hard to believe, believing him to be an emotionless Elysian statue.
Benji can be described as a firm but fair leader who leads from the front. This not come from a desire to seek glory for his family, but because he believes that a leader must be willing to endure the same level of pain his subordinates will undergo. He is well known to promote meritocracy in his commands and heavily punishes those that willingly neglect their duties. He is fond of speaking in proverbs, something he picked up from his adopted father.
Being a military politician, Benji knows his actions carry much more weight than they should. Thus those that are close to him keep his secret that he occasionally disguises himself to personally do altruistic actions like volunteer in a food drive on a backwater of the Empire or anomalously donate to charities. He occasionally blends into his troops to observe them when he is able. Though the higher he climbs the social and military ranking, the harder it is for him to do this.
Pre-RP
Officially, Mizumitsu Benji was born in YE 01 in the city of Geshrinopolis, Yamatai (Planet) according to the records. But in reality, Benji's personal history is vastly more complicated. The two pieces of information that are correct are Benji was born in YE 01 on the planet Yamatai. Mizumitsu Benji's true name is in fact Rathiel Benji Claudius, a Patrician that ended up in the care of Mizumitsu Takashi of the Ryu-Mizumitsu Clan.
In YE 08, the Elysians and the Yamatai Star Empire were at the peak of the First Elysian War. At the time, Mizumitsu Takashi was a general with little renown, but deeply loyal to the new Yamatai Star Empire. But he had his reservations on some of the principles that he kept at the back of his mind, loyalty before all else. This changed after two key events that would also affect Rathiel Benji Claudius.
In retaliation for something they were truly not responsible for, Takashi was tasked with conquering (and later destroying) one of the Heavens named Sky Iron. The victory of his assault was bittersweet to the human as he witnessed the rage of his soldiers against the Elysian civilians and the death of his son Mizumitsu Daisuke during the assault. Onward he moved in the name of the Empire.
But what truly changed him was the encounter with Magathiel Claudius during the assault of another heaven. In a dramatic duel of honor, the two clashed in not only the martial sense but also in philosophy. Takashi ultimately bested Magathiel, but Magathiel could sense the turmoil brewing within the human.
Just as he was to give his last dying rant, his son Rathiel rushed to his defense. Picking up his father's sword, Magathiel came to a realization himself. Despite all of his pride, pride is nothing if there is no one to continue on. With his family wiped out save for his son and daughter, Magathiel in his dying breath linked their fate to Takashi's.
The transition was not an easy one, but Mizumitsu Takashi retiring at the end of the war and going on a journeyman's travel with the two Elysians in tow. While Takashi took the time to meet with and learn from Elysians willing to speak with him, most of the time their travels ended up at Yamataian Shrines and villages.
Over the years, Rathiel's and his sister's natural arrogance began to become tempered as they got to know more about normal Yamataians and the Mizumitsu Samurai. When Takashi eventually developed the “Path of Justice” form of martial arts, the pair were among his first students in YE 16. Though only Rathiel decided to formally join the Mizumitsu Samurai.
In YE 26, he became an officer within the Star Army of Yamatai when the Elysians were absorbed. His reasoning was to guide those to let go of their pride and encourage both sides to let go of their anger. Though for every Elysian (Patrician and Plebian) he did manage to convince, there were 3 that declared him to be a traitor and a sell out.
In YE 29, Taii Mizumitsu was among those affected by Ketsurui-taisho's Species Restriction Order of YE 29. He managed to resist calls for his resignation as a non-Nekovalkjya Elysian long enough to watch it be repealed along with the anti-slavery laws. His faith in Takashi's teachings was enforced.
In YE 31, Chusa Mizumitsu Benji Rathiel died during the Battle of Elysia. In a mix-up during the chaos of the war, he was revived in a Minkan body. Normally an Elysian would be outraged in being put in an “inferior” body, but he had no such issues in the long run. Deciding to embrace the change his creator wanted, Benji decided to drop the Rathiel portion of his name. This was his way of mourning the loss of his old physical body.
In YE 42, he was appointed as the new Rikugun Chief of Staff.
