The Finsen is a Neshaten high energy discharge cannon found used mainly on small to medium class ships. It was designed for use as both a PD system and also as a crowd control weapon in space. The weapon entered service in EE 001-v.

The Finsen is the brainchild of Es'law Fin'sen, a notable scientist who often theorized the possibilities of developing a lightning like weapon. The Finsen is what developed after over sixty years of research and development.

Fin'sen considers it the first step toward developing heavier based plasma weapon systems.

The Finsen was developed for the sole purposes of dealing with mass amounts of ships, such as clusters of fighters or enemy ordinances that permeate an area. The weapons complexity means that it can only be placed on ships whose systems were designed to handle the plasma discharge.

Developed for use against mass targets, the weapon fires an arc of plasma that - while it does low damage compared to other Neshaten plasma weaponry - it makes up for this drawback by being able to jump from one target to another depending on proximity for up to eight targets.

The plasma arc lasts for up to six seconds, when fired, resembles that of a bolt of lightning that is in a constant state of flux. After six seconds, this bolt dissipates like a regular lightning bolt would before the weapon is forced to recharge, this recharge can take up to six seconds before it can be fired again.

Although it is also effective against organics, it is considered unethical for it to be used in that fashion.
