The Freehold-Pattern Laslock was designed in YE 45 by Shasta No Sekai as a rare example in the sector of preferred upscaling weaponry for performance instead of miniaturization. Made for the drones of the Automated Army Project to hunt groups of Tech Scum, The Freehold Laslock trades any potential fire rate and energy capacity for few but extremely powerful energy beams.
The Freehold Laslock comes in a powerful long rifle configuration and for avid gunslingers a more traditional rapid-fire laser pistol that compliments the rifles power with more consistent if weaker rate of fire.

The Freehold Laslock was conceived as a response to the need for a versatile and formidable ranged weapon within the Automated Army Project. Its creation was grounded in the necessity to equip Shasta No Sekai's automated forces with a reliable means of precision engagement when hunting Tech Scum on the aether glass sands of Freehold Factory. The initial inspiration for the weapon's development traces back to the challenges posed by the treacherous journey between factories that Shasta No Sekai personnel undertook and not only roving Deathcrawler Auto-Tank but also gangs of Tech Scum would ambush and harass convoys when not escorted by any of the corporations Mechs.
As the weapon's design evolved, so did its intended purpose. The Freehold Laslock's innate precision and energy-focused capabilities made it an ideal candidate for anti-personnel and anti-material applications. The optical system of the weapon underwent extensive refinement, culminating in the integration of multiple refraction lenses within its elongated barrel. This innovative optical arrangement not only enhanced the weapon's accuracy but also allowed for the scattering of the laser energy into a concentrated yet devastatingly powerful surge.
The history of the Freehold Laslock is intertwined with the progression of the Automated Army Project. Originally conceived as a safeguard against Tech Scum during inter-factory transits, the weapon's utility expanded to encompass the diverse requirements of modern combat to offset their drone soldiers with additional firepower. Shasta No Sekai's team of engineers and designers recognized the weapon's potential and repurposed it to serve as a medium-range armament for the automated forces.
The Freehold Laslock soon became a mainstay within the Automated Army Project's arsenal, earning its reputation as a precision instrument capable of delivering focused energy on demand. Its development journey showcased the corporation's ability to adapt and enhance designs, resulting in a weapon that exceeded its initial purpose and became a symbol of technological ingenuity.
The Freehold Laslock boasts a sleek and ergonomic design at just over four feet in length, featuring smooth contours that enhance its handling and maneuverability. Crafted from lightweight yet durable materials, the weapon ensures resilience in challenging combat environments. Its visual aesthetics embody a seamless fusion of robust and practical utility, encapsulating Shasta No Sekai's dedication to aesthetics and functionality.
Upon discharge, the Freehold Laslock emits a vibrant and intense red-purple muzzle flash that quickly dissipates. The sound of the weapon firing is a sharp and distinctive report, contributing to the weapon's unique auditory signature. Notably, the weapon's firing mechanism generates a concentrated energy beam rather than a conventional bolt, resulting in a swift surge of energy directed towards the target. This energy beam extends from the weapon to the intended target almost instantaneously, delivering a formidable energy payload before diminishing.
The Freehold Laslock's capabilities encompass an effective engagement range of several hundred meters. The precision optical system integrated into its design optimizes the laser's focus, enhancing its accuracy even at extended distances.
The pistol version fires much the same long beam of energy but at significantly reduced range and despite being much weaker it can fire as fast as one can pull the trigger.
The Freehold Laslock operates through a semi-automatic firing mechanism, where each trigger pull results in a precisely focused shot. Loading is facilitated by inserting two Macro Cells into the designated energy slot underneath the weapon, providing power to the weapon's laser system. The weapon incorporates a mode selector to toggle between safe and fire modes, while a built-in laser rangefinder aids in target acquisition and range estimation. Additionally, the Freehold Laslock features a built-in bayonet on its rifle version to cater to close-quarters combat scenarios.
Although the weapon lacks traditional weapon sights, it compensates by accommodating a rangefinder that can connect to various optics, cybernetics, and remote targeting systems. This adaptability enhances the weapon's versatility, allowing it to seamlessly
The Freehold Pattern laslock comes in two variants that are oposites of one another in performance. The Rifle version is a four-foot long long-gun with incredible firepower anr range. While the Pistol version is a much shorter, one-handed weapon that while weaker can fire significantly faster. Both have no weapon sights and rely on a laser rangefinder that allows the rifle considerable accuracy while the pistol can be fired from the hip gunslinger style or point blank.
The rifle takes the much larger Macro cells while the pistol takes the smaller Micro cells. Each variant has its uses and share only in similarity their looks and internal mechanisms.
