Gearhead Michael Two Three 23-1659-2450 is a player character played by Artyr and is currently involved in the Azorean/Freespacer plot.
Height: 6' 1” Mass: 150
Build and Skin Color: Michael's build is slightly muscular, surprising for what little work he does. His skin is a Hispanic shade of brown, covered in rather large splotches of diatoms and lichens from little cleaning. Their random swirls and stripes of grays and pale greens lend itself to some sort of strange camouflage paint.
Facial Features and Eye Color: He's grown a beard which could be described as a chin strap with a goatee. He doesn’t shave very often, so there’s usually a bit of hair everywhere. His eyes are dull, dirty yellow, often irritated from one thing or another.
Hair Color and Style: His hair is a dirty dark brown, not only from its coloring but from the fact that he rarely cleans it. It's a medium length, but unkempt and full of knots and tangles.
Clothing Style: Michael is always found wearing his leather jacket, no matter the temperature; if he needs to he can tie around his waist. His shirts are simple T-Shirts, most inscribed with band logos while his pants are usually whatever happens to be on hand, which is usually mechanic’s pants, with a myriad of pockets for tools and such.
Distinguishing Features: Michael is dirty, and not only his sense of humor. His hair is unkempt, his skin is oily and covered in splotches, and even his eyes look dirty. He takes a shower whenever he can, but when he’s working, that’s not very often.
Personality: Michael Two Three's personality can only be described as chaotic and lecherous. His habits are hard to determine, and he seems to live only for the moment, never a care for what was said or what's supposed to happen. What matters to him is what is happening, and what's about to go down. Thus he's made about as many enemies as he has friends from being such an asshole all the time. Gratification is at his core, and that especially means sexual. He's a demon, even by 'Spacer standards, and will say the strangest pick up lines you've ever heard. Of course they never work, but then again he knows there's always the next one, and the next one, and the next… That doesn't mean he's stupid. On the contrary, he's quite the gearhead and can make virtually anything given the parts at hand. That's probably the sole reason why no one on board his ship has yet killed him. The one thing he overwhelmingly enjoys creating are amplifiers, whether for lasers, power, or implants, but especially for sound. In his workshop will be at least 10 or so amps for his guitar, usually all hooked up together.
Likes: Machines, women, guitars, lasers, space, sarcasm, himself, etc. Dislikes: Assholes, uptight people, “robot”-like people, stuff breaking, etc. Goals: Get famous and get laid!
Two Three's given name came from an encounter with a traveling Nepleslian merchant while he was still young, having just finished his early life. He was a fun guy, with a booming laugh and a bushy beard. He showed the boy all of the little knick knacks he was selling, building or repairing. He took them everywhere, no matter the planet, and in this case, the ship, bringing the latest gear and trinkets to those that normally wouldn't get them. The man had a huge impact on the boy, though he still has a mind of his own. The Nep never left him with anything to remember him by, so Two Three named himself after him. As the newly named Michael grew up he became intensely fascinated with machinery. He would spend days awake destroying and remaking equipment merely for the pleasure he got from it. He didn't care about future work; he did it because he loved it. When he discovered the electric guitar he focused his attention to it and its components, namely the amplifiers. His knowledge of other types of amplifiers was only an extension of that curiosity. When Michael was deemed old enough he set out on his own, looking to inform the galaxy of his awesomeness anyway he can.
Michael has spent his entire life in a starship up to this point, and coupled with his interest in machines this has given him extensive knowledge on starships, their architecture and systems. He was also motivated to learn in order to have a good job, full of leisure and adventure.
Freespacers all have basic neural tech installed at birth for childhood education. These may be used later in life to accelerate learning ability, allowing a him to learn a skill in a fraction of the time it may take most humanoids. Michael has used this extensively, and will continue to in order to make himself useful on any starship. These also provide a small digital memory bank, allowing him to privately record and store memoirs, or share these with others. This skill also allows him to stay connected to the Polysentience and to access the collective consciousness of his race, and to remotely connect and interface to most technology. Michael <3's the PS.
Michael's focus his entire life has been machines; how they work and how they're designed to work. As such his knowledge on the subject is broad, but he tends to favor smaller, portable objects. His specialty is amplifiers; transistors, lasers, and sound amps, but he also has a broad knowledge on a variety of common machines.
His only real hobby besides building things is playing the electric guitar. He can shred it with the best of them, and best of all are the massive modifications he's made to many of his recycled guitars. Many of them are made entirely out of metal scrap, as wood is hard to come by in space. Most have built in tuners and effects. He also isn't too bad at entertaining people, especially anyone he happens to be interested in, though many of them tend to be annoyed by his sarcasm.
As a born mechanic and half machine, use of most technology comes naturally to Michael. He has no problems using any type of computer or interface system and can operate most machines, given time to study them. Interest plays a big part in what he learns, and his interests are spread far and wide. If he isn’t interested in something, there’s not many ways to force him to learn it.
Repairing is his business, and business is needed aboard any starship. Starships don't interest him as much as the electronics for his other hobbies and interests, but being proficient in starship repair is great way to make money while traveling the stars. He knows about most starship systems, and given time, can learn new ones. He can also repair most terrestrial vehicles given enough time to learn how they work. That doesn't mean he knows how to drive them, however.
As much as he hates to admit it, Michael has become quite proficient at mathematics. In order to design an object to specification, or to improve upon its design, he's needed to know the exact output of the given device. This especially helps him when designing weaponry, as he can accurately upgrade a weapon with no major side-effects. What he chooses to upgrade it with is another story.
