The ACS provides all Neshaten vessels with atmosphere and works as a ship's life support system. The ACS is different from most traditional support systems that utilizes oxygen like tanks or hardware as a method of scrubbing CO2 from the air. Instead, the ACS uses almost all organic components, such as plants, to not only generate oxygen but to also scrub harmful bacteria from the air.

While most systems might be located in one area of the ship, the ACS is actually designed to be spread throughout a vessel, which ensures that even if one part of the system becomes disabled, the rest of it will still function. Its ability to work without an active electrical system means that the ACS can be considered a redundant system - it is always working, whether a ship or station has an active reactor or not.

Power is only needed to monitor the system, otherwise, it can be left entirely alone and needs only minimal maintenance to replace dead plants. If left alone, the plants can grow through predetermined locations, potentially spreading through a ship or station.

An anti-viral system comes with the ACS that is used to monitor the plants to ensure they remain healthy. Any unhealthy plants are to be discarded and destroyed. The ACS also serves as a pseudo-fire fighting system, in that the plants are intelligent enough to 'stop' producing oxygen when far too much smoke is present in a given area, although the vents that the oxygen comes out of can also be closed in the event of an emergency.
