Ritual name | Ânamuspa Punla |
---|---|
Meaning | Unmake family |
Pronounced: | ānă-mūs-pă pūn-lă |
Marriages are formed through the Sumanâpa Punla (Making Family) ritual, and if they are to be undone, it is through this ritual, Ânamuspa Punla, the ritual of divorce. Its name in Takavonai (Language) means 'severed from the family'.
The ritual overseen by a member of the Kyn Lumu'ai Jael (Lore Keepers Sect). Ideally, it is the same Lore Keeper who managed the original marriage; it is right that they are present to undo what they had a hand in doing. Then, the individual to be divorced as well as the partner or spousal group that they are divorcing have their paws wrapped together with a lapurnium (sash). The sash is then cut by the person seeking the divorce. Once completed, the person wanting to the divorce leaves taking their possessions with them.
If, when the lapurnium is cut, one or more who were tied by it are cut to the point of bleeding, this can mean an ill omen for the divorce. It means that wounds may remain, even though the ritual was performed and the member is not part of that family any longer.
