Odom Stockwell is a player character played by Yangfan and is currently involved in the TBD plot.

Personality: Odom is the calm, stoic type. He is slow to anger and is usually in control of his emotions. He has a strong sense of justice, instilled into him due to his upbringing, and he views protecting the weak not just as a duty, but as something that the strong must naturally do. Odom believes that those who are strong enough to defend others but fail to do so, are as guilty as those who would do harm.

Likes: Like the vast majority of Phods, Odom is partial to food and sweet drinks. He is especially fond of red-berries, a common fruit on Ohara. He considers those who defend those weaker than them as like-minded individuals, and feels a certain kinship to other Freya followers. He is careful not to allow his personal preferences cloud his judgment, however.

Dislikes: Odom despises criminals, especially those who prey on the weak.

Goals: Odom is ready to prove to the world that his parents and teachers did a fine job raising him. As a young paladin, he aims to prove that he is worthy of the title, by defending justice and helping those in need.

Fenton Stockwell, Paladin of Fryea, and Jyda Stockwell, Priestess of Freya

Odom was born to a loving and prosperous family of Freya's faithfuls in Everspring, and had led a very sheltered life as a young Phod. An obedient son, he followed in his father's footsteps, and was trained as an acolyte paladin ever since he could pick up his shield and hand claws (humans would recognize these as tekko-kagi).

Odom's only adventure so far involved his initiation trial into full Paladin-hood. He, along with a few fellow acolytes and full-fledged paladins, were tasked with rescuing some hostages from a small pirate enclave in the Northern Archipelago. The well-trained paladins easily infiltrated the loosely-guarded enclave and retrieved the hostages, and a bomber plane called in from the Haton Federation soon took care of the surviving pirates.

The test was meant to gauge the young acolytes' reactions to stressful situations such as combat. Odom's instructors noted that while the other acolytes expressed distaste at having to kill for the first time, Odom seemed more concerned about the welfare of the hostages.

His training and assessment complete, Odom's instructors notified him that they had a most interesting first assignment for him…

As a paladin and an enforcer of justice, Odom is trained in both ranged and melee combat. Like all paladins, Odom is very proficient in the use of his hand-claws (tekko-kagi) in hand-to-hand combat. He is also capable of using simple or improvised melee weapons in a pinch, such as daggers, clubs, and short poles. As paladins are often called to perform police duties, Odom has also been trained to fight empty-handed, and to subdue his opponents without dealing lethal injury.

Like all Phods, Odom would have trouble using human weapons that are meant for a much taller user, such as swords, spears, and rifles.

Odom has also been trained in using conventional gunpowder-based pistols and SMGs manufactured on his homeworld. (Keep in mind that conventional weapons on Ohara is at our WWI tech level. Phods are too short to use anything resembling a rifle.)

As a warrior, Odom was not expected to be a good cook. However, by the standards of other species, almost every Phod is a fantastic cook, and Odom is no exception. Having been trained since birth in the culinary arts, he can make most Phodian dishes with the right ingredients, and can improvise a delicious meal out of the foodstuffs available to him, even under very rugged conditions.

As Phods who travel out of their homeworld are often expected to demonstrate their culinary prowess, Odom carries a small guidebook with him that details what food items are known to be safe to serve to each known sentient species. The guidebook obsessively go into details, even specifying what to feed to a Mishu, should one be captured as a prisoner.

In his course of training as a paladin, Odom has been trained to provide first aid, conduct CPR (on Phods), and to diagnose and treat minor injuries and illnesses that would be likely to occur out in the field. Paladins are not only expected to provide medical aid to their comrades during missions, but also to assist in emergency response and disaster relief missions, as a part of their police duties.

As paladins are expected to be able to conduct missions in any environment, Odom has been trained to survive in the wilderness with only moderate equipment. He is capable to hunting and foraging for food, finding safe sources of drinking water, properly starting a camp fire, setting up a simple camp site, determining true north, etc.

Since Odom was trained on the rather idyllic world of Ohara, he might have slightly more trouble on worlds with harsher environments, and not all of what he learned would apply. His training would still be at least somewhat useful, however.

Most Phods have exceptional upper-body strength for their size, and Odom has received vigorous physical training due to his profession. He has above average strength and stamina for a Phod, and can pass any test of physical conditioning meant for a normal human soldier. His upper body strength make him especially dangerous in melee combat.

While most Phods are not good swimmers, Odom has been taught swimming, and knows enough to not drown in moderately turbulent waters.

As paladins are expected to perform police duties from time to time, Odom has been taught public speaking and conflict mediation. He can speak with an authoritative voice, and is capable of giving directions and commands to civilians during emergency situations. He also knows how to mediate and resolve minor disputes, hopefully before they degenerate into brawls.

Odom has been taught to drive small to moderately sized cars commonly found on his homeworld. These would be gasoline-fueled combustion-engine cars build using technology on par with those on 1960s Earth.
