Katerina Valla is a Pythus Separa'shan. Her human half is a meter. Her hair is a vibrant red that smells faintly of strawberries when she's not been out training or operating for longer than a day. She has a set of slit eyes with vibrant aquamarine colored irises. Seamlessly, her human form transitions into a seven-meter-long serpentine lower body, adorned with scales that shimmer in a reddish palette reminiscent of Essia's arid grass lands.

Katerina's temperament can often depend on her body temperature, generally being more energetic the warmer it is. Off duty she's quite laid back, compassionate and a little bit cuddly, which can throw her team members for a loop when they see her in action. Under fire she's determined, taking to her normal charge of stablising and extracting wounded team members with the ferocity of a mother bear.

Born on Essia in YE 20, Katerina grew up amidst the arid planes that define much of the region. Her clansmen were among the most renown potterers in the region, and she was destined to take up this trade, however found herself more often than not in the trees with a spear, hunting game. While talented she never took to clay like her kin tended to did.

At the age of 16, three years after First Contact with Yamatai, her life took a pivotal turn. Under the guidance of a Nagashun priest she was directed to leave the planet. Katerina joined a trade expedition as a clerk. She found the work soul crushing and yearned for those carefree days of playing in the jungles. When she turned 17 she saw the Star Army Rikugun as a way to achieve that. The sudden culture shock was a harsh awakening, but she quickly adapted. So much so she qualified for Ranger training, where she acquired skills that would prove crucial in the challenging years to come.

She had barely been serving 2 years when Kuvexian’s launched an invasion of Essia. This dark period saw her planet under the control of an alien force, its freedoms curtailed and its people subjugated. Rather than evacuate with others, she volunteered to stay behind and defend her homeworld. During the occupation, she became a vital link between the Separa’shan rebels, indigenous to Essia, and Star Army Intelligence {SAINT} operatives, the intelligence arm of the Star Army, who were covertly working on the planet.

She played a central role in sabotage operations against the Kuvexian forces in her region, demonstrating not only strategic acumen but also a fearless commitment to her planet's liberation. Using explosives, she was instrumental in assassinating key figures within the occupying force, disrupting their operations and sowing chaos within their ranks. Her leadership extended to daring rescue missions, one of which saved a SAINT operative, further cementing her reputation as a resourceful and courageous leader.

At the end of the occupation, her skills, bravery, and unwavering dedication opened a new path for her within SAINT. Upon completing the requisite training, she was assigned to the Alert Emergency Group – Intelligence Service (AEGIS), where she continued to serve in a heavily redacted capacity until YE 45. She was then cycled out and placed into a training role, teaching advanced and improvised front line medical care.
