Silas has extended, sharp facial features that give him a gaunt appearance. With a ghostly complexion, thin nose and lips, high cheekbones, and a square jaw, his face has a baroque quality that silently speaks to his solemn and reserved demeanor. Through strict dieting and hyper-specific workouts in environments beyond his high-gravity home planet, Silas has chiseled his frame down to a much leaner form than his typically stocky brethren. As a result, he is a slimmer, more dextrous man.

“Meticulous and minimalist” is perhaps the best way to describe Silas's mindset for grooming and dressing. If the standard Star Army uniform is unavailable, he wears simple jeans, slip-on shoes, and long-sleeved sweaters, invariably in black and grey. He prefers a custom-tailored overcoat to present as a two-armed man in public. To protect his eyes, Silas wears thick black-tinted sunglasses that mask their glow at night. Although his personal wardrobe is sourced from high-end brands, Silas disdains superfluous adornments like jewelry, preferring more practical accessories such as a shoulder holster.

Silas's voice is moderately high-pitched, with a slightly nasally quality.

Silas strives to embody his idea of an ideal SAINT operative: the ruthlessly efficient, consummate professional. Years in active service have morphed the Abwehran into a social chameleon who is resourceful, pragmatic, and cool-headed under pressure. Highly curious to a fault, Silas is a voracious learner who believes in improving himself in some way every day.

Behind the mask of a SAINT operative is an introspective man who, given the nature of his work, has difficulty opening up to others. He is soft-spoken and amicable, preferring to mediate conflict and find mutual understanding. Though his profession is cold-blooded, Silas values the lives of his comrades and would like to see them all return from a mission alive, if not well. His superiors have attributed this to the empathy that Abwehrans possess and have continuously stressed the importance of setting it aside when it could jeopardize a mission.

Although Silas was excommunicated by the followers of Universalism, he still adheres to the religion and holds most of its beliefs. He acknowledges that using aether technology and mental backups perverts life and the reincarnation cycle. His continued devotion stems from lingering guilt over the lives he has taken.

Silas Volker was born on planet Yamatai, in Shingo village, to a family of immigrants from planet Abwehr. As Nightdwellers, they made their home in the town's mountains and made a living as simple farmers. When Silas became a young adult, a mysterious cult abducted him and his family from their homes and whisked them into the darkest recesses of the mountains. Though they were suited to such conditions, their cruelty awoke a keen survival instinct within Silas, who found the inner strength and ingenuity to claw a path for his family out of a predicament that would have broken many. Bearing scars, both mental and physical, the experience opened Silas's eyes to his untapped potential.

In YE 25 he left to join the Star Army the next day, with only a heartfelt farewell note for his family to remember him by.

Excelling in basic training even in comparison to his Nekovalkyrja contemporaries, Silas saw his future in the ranks of SAINT. The mountain cult gave him the determination and grit to realize his potential, but Black Sands pushed his willingness to grasp it beyond his limits. Every day was a battle to meet SAINT's astronomical standards; every second offered the temptation to settle for a lesser position. Silas rediscovered himself until a black-paneled uniform garbed his person, and he'd earned the right to act as an intelligence operative.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Silas immediately took to SAINT work with the voracity of a man possessed. Under the operating handle 'Steele,' Silas cut his teeth in public espionage operations that required fake identities, organically built friendships with persons of interest, and on-sight procurement of equipment necessary for covert operations. Over many years, he repeatedly hollowed his sense of self, becoming whatever person SAINT needed him to be. Now, all that remains is a void of a man, unified in all incarnations by the simple desire to protect the Empire from any and all threats.
