Ryder Hayden is an NPC controlled by GM Jack Pine and SirSkully in the YSS Shiroyama plot.

Ryder stands at a solid 5'9“ with a well-built physique, marbled with muscle and a healthy layer of fat though by all means he is a strong and physically capable individual. His skin is a deep mocha hue that matches Ryder's slightly darker hair, with a strong jaw underneath his pointed goatee that is peppered with specks of grey - similarly Ryder's hair, which is made up of carefully maintained dreadlocks that have been pulled back into a kind of ponytail, is also dotted with streaks of grey and held in place by a Nerimium loop that features nordic-style carvings.

With cybernetic eyes that glow a bright cyan hue and an officer's hat usually atop his head there is little doubt Ryder takes his job very seriously, this is not to say he is a hardass, if anything he is rather warm and makes for good company - though when tough decisions need to be made you can count on Ryder to do his best to keep calm and level-headed.

Ryder was born roughly twelve years before the creation of the Yamataian Star Empire, his family is one who knows hardship and tragedy but the Haydens are a tough lot - it takes a lot to break one, such an example of this are the officer's synthetic eyes. During Great Plague of YE 08 he was among some of the first people to find out that the infection was passed through eye contact, so he grabbed a spoon and ensured he wasn't able to make eye contact with anyone…

The man's military record isn't anything to write a legend about but it is a testament to him being a damn good soldier with his fair share of bullets being taken to get him where he is today - Ryder could have advanced higher in ranks but declined any offers to do so, he feels most at home being an XO.

Fluent in Yamataigo and Trade

Ryder has honed his skills in hand to hand, as well as combat with melee weapons, particularly with combat knives.

With countless hours at the range, as well as years of combat experience has seen that most if not all weapons in the SAoY arsenal have seen their way into his trained hands. Barring those restricted to certain branches of the military of course. However, Hayden has improved his marksmanship over time to compete even with the best of nekoes.

From tanks, to LAVs, to utility 4WD drive jeeps, Ryder is skilled behind the wheel (or joysticks) when it comes to vehicles. He's also proven to not be too shabby at maintaining them either.

Ryder has been trained to survive and thrive, even in the harshest conditions. He knows how to camp, conceal himself in his environment, read the land, and navigate via map, compass, and sexton.

Through learning what he could while on deployment, Hayden has become proficient in administering first aid, CPR, and other medical first responder practices.

Hayden is an avid painter, a skill that has been exponentially improved from his survival skills, specifically camouflage. He's also a fond player of the Harmonica.
