Selin Akri'bast is a player character played by Samuel.

Build and Skin Color: Selin is small and lean, without much muscle build-up anywhere on his body. His skin is a very light brown-ish color (like a tan).

Eyes and Facial Features: Selin has orange slitted eyes and a wide grin.

Ears: Selin possesses the typical fox-ears of his species; Pointed and alert, with orange fur.

Hair Color and Style: Selin has short hair that matches the color of his fur: orange. As a Daur, this is less apparent, but upon close inspection it is easy to discern his fur color. His tail is an orange-peppered black that\'s a bit longer than it should be, at two feet three inches. And growing.

Distinguishing Features: Selin is probably best remembered by his wide, practiced grin and his overly-long tail.

Personality: Selin believes… Selin is unsure of what he believes. He comes from a pacifistic family, but is neither interested in the philosophy nor practices it. He maintains several different views, but suffers from a great deal of “unsureness” about himself, his world, and his people. This is in part due to his thirst for knowledge, (a typical characteristic of his species,) but may have something to do with his anger with socially-distant parents and family. Selin is a very philosophical youth as a result. He studies written works about history, philosophy, and medicine, to try to create an understanding for himself about… “everything” as he calls it.

He is prone to losing himself in thought, or obsessing over something that has his attention for any length of time.

Selin is rarely very angry for any length of time; he easily blames himself for things or over-analyzes them or just forgets he was angry entirely. If he's angered enough, however, he can hold a grudge with the best of them.

Selin isn't socially-awkward, but he's not the most charming of people. Socially, he's an average, level-headed Kit with a few eccentricities he keeps mostly to himself. He's most happy when he's spending time with people or reading, which is likely why he chose to accelerate his education to be a Healer in the Navy and – eventually – a practicing one in the civilian world.

To summarize Selin, he has a thirst for knowledge fueled by a desire to understand things (philospohically), he's generally level-headed, yet still manages to be a bit of an air-head.

Selin was born to a pacifist pairing of Daur. He was sheltered heavily, until the birth of his sister, and forced through parental pressure to excel academically. He learned quickly, and was placed into multiple advancement programs and tested many times to accelerate his education. At the end of it, he was left with more questions than answers.

His refusal of Pacifism – a philosophy his parents shared and advocated – began when he read about V'kaste and the Great War. He was appalled by the contradictory use of the Pacifist beliefs by the Pacifist Faction in the war, and inspired greatly by V'kaste's courage and dedication. He also found that true pacifism was impossible to maintain; conflict, he decided, was the lifeblood of the universe. Competition forwarded evolution and life, and without it nothing was accomplished.

His new belief and refusal of pacifism created a schism between him and his parents and – soon – his sister. With the birth of his sister, he was quickly placed into the position of being almost shunned by his family. He was sheltered and cared for, and he wanted for little, but his parents became socially distant to him, and, in fact, accelerated his education even more.

By the time he was 11, he had graduated. Without any goodbyes, he cut ties with his family and joined the Navy.

Selin is trained in the use of common Shukaren Navy weapons and equipment. He is also trained in basic hand-to-hand combat, and has been found to be physically fit. He has also been trained to work as part of a combat team.

Selin has been trained and educated extensively in the treatment of Shukaren-Laibe, Shukaren-Daur, and My'Leke bodies of every sex and type. He can use and prescribe drugs on/to his patients, apply first aid, and perform emergency medical surgeries such as bullet/shrapnel extraction, setting of bones, etc.. Selin can insert IV's. He has also been educated in good bedside manner.

Selin has been educated in Shukaren history and philosophy. He can quote passages directly from memory, and can apply them to the social setting. He has also committed to memory basic Shukaren laws, and all Navy regulations.

As a Healer, Selin has had to be educated in basic psychology in order to provide counsel to the soldiers under his care. As a result, he has been trained to help those soldiers deal with their injuries or keep them calm when they are stressed. He can also tell a joke or two.

Selin is familiar with basic radio operation and procedures and can make transmissions to and receive transmissions from other characters through headsets, starships, power armor, and shuttles in both combat and non-combat conditions. Selin is fluent in Tenacen. He can speak and write Tenacen and efficiently and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc.

Selin has received an advanced education in mathematics, including calculus, trigonometry, algebra, statistics, and so on.

Selin can speak or write stories, can write effective papers and essays on subjects, can recite many poems from memory and create his own, and can tell jokes with limited success.
