Werner is 6'4 and very thin in stature. He has very bright, sliver colored eyes. His face looks as if it was chiseled from rock, appearing harsh and rough. During the loss of his second ship, the Necromancer, a ceiling panel and cut his face. He has a scar that runs from his left temple down to his right jaw. Another distinctive feature is that Ulysses is completely bald.

Ulysses Werner is a very intelligent and reserved man. The men under his command have said that he was cold and calculating. However, he is charming when he is around those he enjoys the company of and is a great shoulder to cry on. He has lots of love to give and spreads it often to his closest friends.

Ulysses S. Werner was born in YE 07 in Funkycity, Nepleslia. As a young boy, he grew up playing with his younger sister Hazel. They two had a very typical childhood. However, both parents were military, thus prompted the two to both enter the service. Ulysses went into the Nepleslian Navy Officer school at age 17 and Hazel joined Nepleslian Space Marine Corps, thus sending the siblings off on opposite paths.

Ulysses Werner graduated from officers training and was assigned to the 3rd fleet, the Patriots. He was a part of the 42nd Atlas Destroyer group “The Angry Crocs.” He rose through the ranks quickly do to his keen tactical mind. Unlike most Naval officers, Werner looks at problems differently by attempting to use subterfuge and elegance in his fleet movements. He likes to hide in the shadows and exploit the enemy's weaknesses. Werner took part in the The Rok'Veru Offensive and earned several commendations for his valor during the battle. His ship was struck and the captain was killed. He quickly and calmly took control of the situation and was able to get the crippled ship back to safety with no extra casualties.

However, Ulysses was also stubborn and would also question and outright challenge the orders of his superiors when he thought that their plan was foolhardy, or there was just a better way to do it. This angered his superiors, and after some time, he was forced to accept an honorable discharge and an early retirement.

This deeply angered Ulysses, as he wanted to do nothing more than command a warship. After his retirement party, he was visited by his sister Hazel who had lined up a new job opportunity for the both of them. When Ulysses was told he could command a starship again, he jumped at the opportunity.
