Humans that breathe the atmosphere unfiltered may experience sore throat, coughing, dizziness, headaches, sensory dysfunction, and will usually lose consciousness within an hour.

There are local bacteria life-forms present on the surface, recognizable as patches of yellow, green-yellow, or orange slime. They are not known to be harmful. Due to their sulphur-based chemistry they are not edible.
