OID Mk.II

The OID Mk.II is a redesigned version of the OID from the Galactic Chaos game system. Designers saw a chance to expand their product base to a more open market. In Yamatai nearly everyone can access news, internet material, or PANTHEON naturally. However in Neplesia this is different, citizens must either have cybernetic implants to do this or have to rely on external devices, sometimes even multiple devices. Using the OID Mk.II people can access the internet, read or watch the news, listen to music, or even communicate with each other without speaking or across great distances. Furthermore, just like Nekovalkyrja or Yamataians, users of the OID Mk.II can interact with any electronic device that they want to, assuming the device allows for wireless connections.

Operation

Unlike the OID the Mk.II doesn't require the user to enter REM to use. The device includes a short range version of what most digital species call β€œTelepathy”, it is only capable of using this when it's emitters have contact with the users skin. The device constantly runs a low scale MRI scan in order to detect input and commands from the user. In order to operate the user need only 'key' the device to listen for a 'command thought' where the device will listen for further input. From their the user simply uses other 'keys' that they have created to interact with the device.

Ex. Command thought: Jane Subkeys: Music (Plays music);

Joe looked up at the Nepleslian skyline through his immense glass windows, Jane, music. Joe thought as he began to 'hear' the music being played. I don't like this song, it doesn't suit the mood Joe thought as he listened to the peppy pop tune being played. Jane, Joe thought Play something jazzy, this time through the stereo. Joe finished, as he turned to the pretty lady sitting on the couch. Silently Joe's device searched through Joe's list of music for a Jazz song Joe might like. Nanoseconds later his stereo's blank LCD began to glow a light green color as it played a Jazzy tune.

If the user has not programmed a subkey for a specific task then the device will make a 'best possible guess' and create the subkey (in this case it was playing music through Joe's stereo).

Visual Feeds

If the content the user is trying to access contains visual information, in the case of watching the news, video, or even surfing the web in some cases, the OID Mk.II will prompt the user to enter 'Thoughtspace'. While in 'Thoughtspace' the device sends information to the users brain that causes an overlay to be superimposed onto the users field of vision. The user will then be shown the content requested in a window. This overlay is transparent and the user can move objects around mentally to clear their vision, or the user can adjust the transparency to a more desirable level. The user can exit 'Thoughtspace' at anytime they desire.

Audio Feeds

If a user prompts the device to play music or some other audio, the device will do so. It should be noted that because of the way the device interacts, unless the user directs it to play through a stereo speaker or similar system, the device will feed the audio information into the users brain tricking it into 'hearing' the audio.

The device can operate for 48 hours in 'Thoughtspace', 64 hours Normal, and 9 days in stand-by. Average lenght of operation time is 30 hours. The device comes with a charger.

Appearance

The OID Mk.II is an upgraded version of the OID which is worn like a pair of headphones, with a few differences. The set is worn horizontally, with the band on the back of the skull leaving the eyes uncovered, instead of vertically like most traditional headsets. Unlike the OID however the band is about 1β€œ thick at the back, so that better processors and transmitters could be included. Furthermore, where the device reaches the ears, instead of the device covering or entering the ear, it becomes a J shape. The hook of the J rests on the ear, and the longer leg of the J extends above the ear to the temple. Each side of the headset has 3 electrode pads. The lower electrode pad stops at the back of the ear, just before where the jawbone connects with the rest of the ear, while the upper 2 electrode pads are on an arm that extends from above the ear to about the temple. The first electrode pad is placed right above the ear, the second is designed to face the temple and is placed on an extendable section of the arm. An additional 3 electrode pads are evenly spaced along the back section of the device. All electrodes are built facing toward the brain.
