The Cowboy Hat is a Hat-type clothing used by the NDC, originally used by Neplesia beginning in Pre-History - Before YE 01.

The Cowboy Hat costs as expensive as 349 KS to 35 KS at cheapest ¹⁾. It is available from Black Wing Enterprises and Neplesia Clothing stores. ²⁾³⁾

As humans were the first to create and wear this item, this style of a broad-brimmed hat with a high crown began with Nepleslia. The Cowboy Hat found more usage in sunny worlds because it has a tall crown that provides insulation and a wide brim for shade. And hot and sunny climates inspire designs with very wide brims.

It is not clear when the Cowboy Hat received its name. But what is known is that it was humans in Nepleslia who used it, as well as other hats such as top hats and bowlers. They later brought it to 188604 (Osman) because of the hot, sunny environment, as humans needed something to give them shade. From there, people from the organization Section 6, who had lived on that world, picked up on the style. Eventually, when they left the world for Sanctum and the Sirris VI within, they brought it along. Today, it is sold by Black Wing Enterprises.

In moderns times, the Cowboy Hat continues to be popular for Law-abiding and Law-breaking citizens across the sector. The newest change for the Hat was to allow holes for those Anthros with ears at the top of their heads to allow some comfort while wearing it.

Modern cowboy hats are made of fur-based felt, straw or, less often, leather. They are sold with a tall, rounded crown and a wide flat brim. They have a simple sweatband on the inside to stabilize the fit of the head and usually a small decorative hat band on the outside of the crown. Hats are customized by creasing the crown and rolling the brim. Often, a more decorative hat band is added. In some places “stampede strings” or “wind strings” are also attached. Hats can be manufactured in virtually any color, but are most often seen in shades of beige, brown, and black.

The original Cowboy Hat was in colors of white, black, and brown, but in modern times it wouldn’t be unheard of to see them in other colors.⁴⁾

Typically, as a hat, it is worn on a head of a wearer; it is used to give shade to the eyes of the wearer and to look stylish. It is not typically a part of a uniform, but it can be if the Military Leader/s are accepting of it.

Cleaning requirements and maintenance depend on the material used to create it.
