A specialized energy field generated around a shield at a radius of only a couple of meters beyond its hull, the Hazard Shield bends and deflects certain types of radiation. Though the Abwehran's system of armor layering is able to block the majority of radiation, the Hazard Shield adds another layer of protection by bending electromagnetic radiation at certain frequencies and wavelengths. When a ship encounters an area that contains high amounts of radiation, the hazard shield will often gain a reddish glow.
