Because space travel can be dangerous the Frontier Service Corporation commissioned it's manufacturing branch in YE 39 to create a pulse laser design that was simple and could be easily sized to match the desired application.

The technology was created by a group of college students attending an affordable Nepleslian technical university. With their designs nearly finished all that was needed was funding to begin development of final prototypes and prepare the designs production model. FSCorp paid their tuition, provided the funding needed, and signed a 30 year contract with the students who would now be the leading design engineers for laser technology in the corporation.

Desiring a simple, accurate weapon for use on both spacecraft and atmospheric vehicles the FMS Design Engineers set to work on a scale-able pulse laser design, one that could be tailored to fit any application, output, or energy requirements.

The result was a design that could range anywhere from a pistol to an artillery piece.

The unit is built from multiple assemblies. The emitter assembly is the most visible after installation and is rectangular in shape with a square lens.

The power assembly is a collection of eight orange cylindrical capacitors with large wires to feed the emitter. While they can be mounted in any fashion they are generally mounted to a circular frame which serves as part of the cooling system. The cooling system spans the length of the device but starts as a circular tube which contains high performance cooling equipment.

The laser is powered by electricity. Any electrical power source capable of delivering the proper amperage will be sufficient for operation. It's modular design allows it to be fed by a variety of small scale sources such as batteries and capacitors or even feed directly from generators and reactors.

A weapon built from these parts must have at least these basic components.

• Emitter Assembly: Often just called a barrel, this modular system is the business end of the pulse laser weapon. It can be made in a very wide variety of styles to deliver many different effects but must have an appropriately sized power assembly to achieve lethal output.
• Power Assembly: Used to facilitate electricity from the power source to the emitter.
• Power Source: Either a city grid, starship generator, or battery. This is what powers the weapon.
