Doran Haverthorn is a player character played by Straken.

Build and Skin Color: Doran has a compact frame with an athletic physique built from a strict workout regimen his family kept him on. His shoulders arc out gently to a moderate width. His skin light tan in color.

Eyes and Facial Features: Relaxed green eyes adorn Doran's angular face, and with a slight arch to his nose, he has sometimes been compared to a disinterested hawk.

Ears: Fairly basic human ears that fan outward a bit.

Hair Color and Style: Doran has a shaggy head of dark drown hair that he usually leaves to fall freely in his face.

Distinguishing Features: Doran has a light scar running across his left palm from an accident when he was a kid.

Personality: Doran is a jovial man with boisterous tendencies. Confidence derived from a strong sense of pride belies youthful curiosity and an interest in learning, even if he may present a strong negative opinion on the matter. Friendly to a fault, he loves meeting and greeting the many species he comes across.

• Likes: Absurdly spicy food, jokes, visiting, piloting, thinking about home, and the notion of luck.
• Dislikes: Bland food, audio books, having nothing to do, and having no one to talk to.
• Goals: Doran used to want to find his way home, but has since settled into his new life with Origin Industries. So now he simply wants to see how much technology can develop.

Doran has an interesting history, or at least it is interesting to him. Born into a family with a long history of military tradition and leadership, Doran often felt pressured to achieve greater things, especially since his older brother frequently seemed to be the family favorite. So, seeking to differentiate himself from his sibling, Doran pursued a career as a pilot whereas his brother became a soldier. As a pilot, it seemed he had got what he wanted, with the Naval side of the family favoring him now over his brother.

As a pilot, Doran found a serene love of flying scouting missions for a survey fleet, for it often meant spending hours flying alongside his copilots as well as getting the chance to discover something new and exciting. Sure enough, one day while flying his sensors picked up a strange reading, and when he broke off to investigate he unknowingly flew into “some sort of spatial distortion vortex like thing.” When his copilots suddenly lost contact with Doran they flew out to investigate, but he was no where to be found. As Doran would soon find out, he was brought to the Kikyo Sector, and with none of the visible stars matching any of his charts the young man was left adrift in space with no clue which direction to go. So, with only one safe option available to him, he activated his distress beacon and sat alone in the cold expanse of space. What he had once longed for now looked to be his undoing, and in being left alone his worst fear as well.

As luck would have it though, his beacon was picked up by a group called Origin Industries. Being met with looks of awe and curiosity after being brought about one of their ships, Doran got an even better understanding that it wasn't just the stars that seemed foreign. Understanding that his rescuers interest was in the technology he possessed rather than himself, he figured he could broker a deal for passage by selectively releasing information about his technology. Between his fighter, his firearm, and a snack bar he had in his ration kit, Doran managed to make it to what appeared to be a civilized planet. Sure, there was a city, but nothing was familiar to him.

So, still having no idea where he was or where he should go to try and get home Doran offered up control of his technology in exchange for a job working as an engineer for Origin Industries, and seeing as he was the relative expert on the technology the deal was official. Since that day, roughly six years ago in the year YE 30, Doran has been working for Origin Industries to develop advanced technology, and within the past few year he has accepted the Kikyo Sector and Origin Industries as his new home; and in turn once again began working as a pilot with the Frame Testing division.

Doran has made a new life for himself working for Origin Industries. Despite how quickly he went from a specialist on the technology he brought over to being just another worker, he has maintained a role working with the development and design of new technology. While it wasn't easy grasping technology that was more advanced than what he ever knew before, he proved to be a fast learner thanks to good teachers.

As a trained military pilot, in his home system he was adept at controlling a variety of vehicles, though he focused in space-faring vessels.

Prior to his relocation, Doran was a pilot in the military, and as such he was required to know how to fix any problem with his gear that might arise in the event that there was no dedicated engineer there to help. With Origins Industries Doran has applied this skill to maintaining the new tech that is developed.

Maintaining the training regimen that the military, and his family before that, instilled him Doran maintains a healthy and fit body. Despite appearing on the lean size, he is still capable of respectable feats of strength.

Over the years, Doran has acquired the required skills needed for operating the systems that he was helping build. Though he prefers to have a tool in his hand than a computer.

Doran greatly enjoys telling stories and a variety of jokes, most stemming from his life before Origin and all the way back to his family heritage. Also, if he is sufficiently drunk, he may begin singing in an old dialect that likely only he understands.

Having grown up with an overbearing older brother, Doran got used to being scrappy. As he grew up and the needs changed, his methods actually more or less stayed the same. In a fist fight Doran goes all out and just starts swinging.
