Starship Operators are controllers and pilots of the ships of the Star Army of Yamatai. Being Starship Ops generally means being on the bridge of a ship. They are sometimes referred to as bridge bunnies and the position can often lead to becoming a Starship Captain.
The occupational uniform color for Starship Operator is Gray and the MOS code is 09.
The Starship Operations have been in service of the Star Army of Yamatai since YE 21. They receive the duties to operate on the bridge of the starship handling systems such as the overall starship systems, combat systems, sensors, and external communications and piloting the ship itself. These bridge bunnies, as they are referred to are seen as an essential part of the starship operations.
In YE 43, the Starship Operations MOS was the focus of the Accelerated Officer Program.
Members that take the Starship Operations path will be attending training and courses at the Ketsurui Academy at Ketsurui no Iori. This educational path is being strictly monitored by the Star Army Training Administration that oversees the student's progression and completion.
In YE 43, the minimum rank for this occupation was set to Shoi Kohosei and the maximum rank was set to Chusa.
Members of the Starship Operation's occupation fall into 2 main roles: System & Safety Monitor, Mission Operator, and Starship Operations.
Mission Operator
Their primary job is to speak between the commanding officers, usually the captain, of starships and the away teams that are acting under the commanding officer's orders. They can also be tasked with opening up lines of communication between ships, as they share the same seat as communications operators on many bridges. For more information go to Star Army Mission Operator.
System & Safety Monitor
They work in many different ways, especially during combat scenarios, to ensure peak performance from the ship and those maintaining it. For more information go to Star Army Systems & Safety Monitor.
Starship Operations
Although the exact jobs and seating arrangements change from ship to ship, Ship Operators - while capable of sitting any seat, theoretically - are often divided into four general, overall task groups on the bridge, simplified here:
Starship Systems
Manning the Systems and Safety Monitoring station on the bridge, starship operators assigned to ship systems are responsible for adjusting the ship's combined field system for propulsion, shields, and stealth; for ship systems such as generators, capacitors, weapons, and STL propulsion, for monitoring the ship's overall condition in regards to functionality; for damage control and communicating with technicians, and to maintain onboard ship security.
In combat, the person in this position reports shield and hull integrity. 1)
Combat Systems
Combat Systems and Weapons Arrays handle the targeting and scanning systems during combat, assisted by the ship's computer. The function of this position is relatively simple: shoot the enemies. 2)
Sensors and External Communications
This position, sometimes manned by a science officer, is responsible for scientific surface and space scanners, communications with other ships, and management of the ship's electronic warfare suite. 3)
Ship Piloting and Navigation
The Ship's Pilot/Star Army Navigator usually handles piloting and navigating, both inside and outside of combat situations. In practice, some ship captains take this position. 4)
Every Starship Operation officer requires to have Star Army Common Skills. Additional skills that can benefit the character are as followed:
Players with Starship Operation characters are expected to have a basic understanding of handling operational systems on a starship an small craft within the Star Army of Yamatai and be prepared to research those topics more in-depth.
