Commanders are executive officers on a ship and serve directly under the Captain (NSN). They often have acting position on the bridge crew at one of the stations, or as a strategic adviser. To become a Commander, a person most likely is promoted from Lieutenant (NSN) when the position of their ship XO was open, or another ship's XO position was open. When the Captain (NSN) leaves the ship, the Commander becomes the acting CO of the ship until his/her return. Commanders make 1000 DA a week.
