Introduced in AD MMMCMXCIV (AD 3994/ye_23) with the Thunderbolt-class Fast Attack Frigate, this relatively powerful weapon - built into the “nose” of the Thunderbolt, hence its name - fires a beam of plasma that phases into subspace (in order to penetrate barriers and, to a lesser extent, armor) until encountering a solid object. When the aforementioned encounter occurs, the beam is “dragged” back into normal space - and deals considerable amounts of damage.

The beams fired by the Thunderbolt-Type Nose Beam can bypass barriers (except for those that specifically protect against phasing and/or teleportation, such as the Star Army of Yamatai's Combined Field System) and solid objects less then one decimeter (3.9370 inches) thick.
