NAM Rapid Launcher Missile System

History and Development

From the NAM miniature missile page,

Since the first powered armorsuits began being used in Nepleslian Military, the miniature missile system, more commonly known as minimissiles, has been a staple piece of equipment for ground operations. Most Nepleslian Arms and Munitions minimissile systems consist of launcher pods present on powered armorsuits which are able to store and unleash several small, self-locking self-propelled missiles at a time. Swarming tactics at the time were encouraged to ensure contact of missile payloads; the use of single, powerful missiles for infantry combat has been frowned upon as newer, more accurate anti-missile countermeasures have been developed.

Minimissiles are typically about the size of an 8 oz tin can, with all systems included. Because of the small size, minimissiles are suggested for use in close or medium range combat, as propellant stored inside minimissiles do not last very long.

RDL Series

RDL-01a

The first of the NAM Rapid DART Launchers, the RDL-01a carries and launches a payload of 60 darts. This first iteration was a solid application to Nepleslian armorsuits, albeit a few minor discrepancies with shape and size when attached to powered armorsuits.

Makes use of NAM DART minimissiles.

Location: Commonly under skirt armor, on the thigh Warhead Type: DART High-Explosive Dirty Payload Purpose: Damaging shields, disabling sensors and tracking Secondary: Visual smokescreen Damage: Tier 5 or Tier 6, Medium Anti-Armor or Heavy Anti-Armor (FIXME: Staff needs to determine which) to shields, Tier 1, Light Anti-Personnel to everything else

Range: ~1000 meters Rate of Fire: 15, 30 or 60 in 3 seconds Area of Effect: ~3 meters Muzzle Velocity: 2,000 meters a second Ammunition 60

RDL-02a

A slightly updated version that hit circulation around the time the AIR2 was developed, the RDL-02a was kept roughly the same. There were some small tweaks to the shape and contour of the device to allow it to more naturally fit onto powered armorsuits, as well as compacting the entire unit, reducing the girth by three inches.

RDL-03a

Arguably the first real update given to the RDL line, the RDL-03a system was enhanced and upgrade to accommodate the increase weight tolerance of the newer Hostile Powered Infantry Armorsuit. It was given a newer aesthetic design more akin to the new armorsuit models, as well as an small increase in minimissile capacity.

RAL Series

RAL-01a

Launched alongside the initial WATER1 Armorsuit, the RAL-01a made use of the NAM ARROW minimissile, a more lethal alternative to the NAM DART minimissile. This particular is usually the favored alternative to the RDL series in scenarios with standard infantry-to-infantry combat is very likely, although the DART-oriented RDL series still often finds itself included during missions.

Location: Commonly under skirt armor, on the thigh Warhead Type: ARROW High-Explosive Warhead Purpose: Anti-Armor Secondary: Anti-Personnel Damage: Tier 4, Light Anti-Armor

Range: ~1000 meters Rate of Fire: 15, 30 or 60 in 3 seconds Area of Effect: ~3 meters Muzzle Velocity: 2,000 meters a second Ammunition 60

RAL-02a

While the original RAL-01a was able to successfully fulfill its intended roles for the years it was in service, the RAL-02a was developed alongside of the Hostile Powered Infantry Armorsuit. Major changes include small aesthetic redesigns as well as a slight increase in the number of missile ordinance able to be carried in a single Rapid Launcher.

RBL Series

RBL-01a

A relatively new addition to the Rapid Launcher System, the RBL-01a was developed in the same period as the Hostile and Aggressor powered armorsuits. These new launchers were loaded with potent and incredibly dangerous antimatter warheads, fitted onto the new NAM BOLT minimissile.

Makes use of NAM BOLT minimissiles.
