Upon pulling the trigger, firing pin strikes primer, propelling the shot out of the shell and through the barrel. Recoil forces the bolt and barrel to the rear, compressing return springs for both. Bolt is held to the rear, barrel unlocks and returns to battery, round is ejected. Return springs are compressed during this and force the bolt and barrell forward, chambering a new round.
