Ryusei is familiar with basic radio operation and procedures and can make transmissions to and receive transmissions from other characters through headsets, starships, power armor, and shuttles in both combat and non-combat conditions. He is fluent in Trade (language) and Yamataigo (邪馬台語), though both are accented in a sort of high-class country way. He can speak and write both correctly and efficiently and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc.

Ryusei received hand-to-hand combat training, followed up with a rigorous training program. He is skilled and experienced in combat both in Yamatai-like conditions and in zero-gravity, with and without weapons. Weapons He is trained in include energy pistols, knives, and power armor.

As the scion of an old and traditional family that traces its descent to various gentry, Ryusei was expected to learn Kenjutsu, the art of the sword. He is proficient with traditional Yamataian swordsmanship as a result, though only in a formal and dueling capacity.

Ryusei is capable of operating any computer system that uses the Kessaku OS, found on all Star Army starships. He is proficient in entering and/or searching for information.

Ryusei received basic mathematics training, to including up to algebra and trigonometry.

Ryusei received the basic training in operating the military vehicles that all Star Army Infantry are expected to be able to use, but he's still a bit inexperienced in the practicalities of using them in the field.
