Physical Characteristics

Qason is on the taller side of the average Qaktoro height, and he is quick and decently strong. His fur is a common shade of black, its pattern broken up by gray-encircled coal-colored dots. Blue eyes peer out from a thoughtful face, and his ears are pointed. His tail is about three feet long, and is similar to that of a panther. His time as an engineer strengthened his hands, and he has a respectable grip strength, making him an excellent climber despite his somewhat high weight.

Height: 6.5 feet (1.981 meters) Mass: 200 pounds (90 kg)

Post-Imprisonment

Qason has been wounded multiple times since his capture and imprisonment by the Mishhuvurthyar. He lost his left leg below the bottom-most knee-joint, and has since replaced it with a cobbled-together prosthetic of his own making, complete with toe-claws. A tentacle strike to his neck nearly killed him, and is what rendered him mute until he can receive proper treatment and, potentially, a cybernetic replacement for his vocal cords. His skin under his fur is peppered with scars large and small.

Boqatsou (Death curse): “Reassembling you will be a challenge, once I'm done with you.”

Psychological Characteristics

Background

Qason was raised in the City State of Yomesou (Death Hawk) on the World Station in the first month of YE 16. He was born into the Roiarq family of the prominentRuoka Leyto. As a child, Qason was a precocious disassembler and escape artist; he regularly made his way out of the family House despite fences and walls and locks placed as obstacles in his path, and he had a habit of un-making toys and equipment so that he could learn more about how they worked. His parents, two of whom were Musicians who performed the Clan equivalent of relaxed jazz and one of whom was a mild-mannered Cook, struggled with Qason. Their other children were more sedate, more academic, and far less 'getting into everything all the time'.

Thankfully, the Academies were an outlet for Qason's energy. He excelled in courses relating to wrestling, mechanics, and oddly enough, gardening. He stayed awake for most of the mandatory religious classes offered in school, but concepts of faith failed to truly capture his interest. When assigned to sing traditional songs, he applied himself with little gusto, and his efforts in poetry yielded products that met the requirements of form and poetic structure, but that had no real artistry to them. The young, black-furred Qason was an engineering kind of boy. He was part of a school team that built robots designed to accomplish various challenges, and he volunteered for the school's technology department, maintaining computers and other devices. He also frequently ran away during field trips, scampering off into the wilderness or escaping school supervisory staff to go visit with strangers. His faltering skills in the creative arts, and his disciplinary problems, continued to frustrate his parents, and it earned him a reputation as a 'wanderer' in his House.

Upon graduating the Academies and passing his Baqnor (move from youth), the studious and scientifically-minded Silver Moon Sect, which managed much of the Clan's technical and engineering projects, declined to allow Qason to join their ranks. Though his marks were high in the relevant fields, his propensity to take apart things that were not his (even though he later put them back together) and his willingness to run off and escape were less-than-ideal traits in the eyes of the Sect's recruiters. Qason was briefly devastated, until a former Teacher of the Veltin Usapo Jael (Swift Knife Sect) Sect vouched for Qason with that group, granting him a place among them instead. Qason became a Bajao'a (Technician) with the Sect tasked to guard the Clan's territory. His first duty position was on one of the Clan's many Watcher Stations, mobile space stations tasked with the defense of the Clan's territory. Qason maintained the station's systems, robots, and even had the opportunity to maintain a few Clan Mechs. Even while performing this work, Qason found himself coveting the chance to work on the Clan's starships…

Qason was in his early 20's when the Clan first encountered the Yamatai Star Empire. Information about this Clan of Female Warriors was fascinating, and Qason found their starships elegant and unique. He was surprised when the Clan Mui, a member of his own House Leyto, appointed a Nekovalkyrja as an Emissary of the Clan, but some and the actions of that Emissary proved the wisdom of that move. In between his other studies, Qason endeavored to learn to speak Trade (language), and even a little Yamataigo (邪馬台語). Reading and writing in either language proved difficult, but he told himself he could learn those later. When the YSS Kyōryoku, a Kisaki-class Starbase of the Scientific Studies Service (SSS), was brought into orbit around Âmuar (Dream) in YE 42, Qason took language classes there, as well as a few exchange courses in basic Yamatai engineering principles. Again, he deferred classes in reading and writing in those languages in favor of taking technical courses that interested him. While he preferred the repaired, built-from-salvage nature of many Clan ships, he couldn't deny the value of the incredible technology brought to bear by the Clan of Female Warriors.

By the time he reached the rank of Sâvyjo'ka (Senior Apprentice), Qason had already completed several apprenticeships with currently-serving Starship Engineers. He had matured, thanks to the guidance of wiser Qaktoro, and a few lost duels also mellowed out some of his negative habits. The Silver Moon Sect re-evaluated Qason, and accepted his application to return to the World Station to complete training that they offered in Starship Engineering skills. Upon reaching the rank of Sasâvyjo'sa (Journeyman) at the end of YE 45, Qason's application to become a Starship Engineer in his own right was accepted.

It was while serving in this context aboard a Seeker ship that Qason's vessel was attacked by the wretched 'Clan of Many Legs', the Mishhuvurthyar. Despite the use of clever escape tactics and tricks, the ship was disabled. Qason saw to the destruction of the ship's computers as well as its 'brain', and he was about to attempt to engineer an explosion in the engine-room when an NMX Nekovalkyrja subdued him. He, and several of his fellow crewmen, were kept drugged and near-comatose by their captors. Some of his more unfortunate fellows who were too badly wounded were used as Mishhu 'nests' for their eggs. The rest were delivered to a prison planet, where they were to act as prey in a most dangerous game…
