The Plasma Flak Cannon is a point defense weapon by Origin Defense Manufacturing, designed in YE 31. The cannons are mounted on small turrets along a ship's hull, and are tied into the ship's defensive sensors array. Each turret holds a single cannon, which uses an electromagnetic firing system to fire plasma warheads contained in a ferrous shell, which explosively detonate into clouds of shrapnel and plasma at a preset distance, creating a curtain of anti-air defense around the ship. The cannons are fast firing, allowing just a few of them to set up an effective defense perimeter around their ship.
