Sakura Machinery "Cao" General Purpose Machine Gun

The Sakura Machinery “Cao” General Purpose Machine Gun, designed and manufactured by Sakura Machinery. It was first used by the Nepleslian Reds in late YE 45 on Planet Osman.

In response from Fujiko Self-Defense Force desiring a support weapon between the M115 SPAID and the Machine Gun, 35mm, Type 30, Sakura Machinery undertook the project to create a weapon that could reliably support sub-PA infantry while being adaptable enough to support heavier units. Historically producing designs created by others but incorporating feedback from Star Army of Yamatai veterans, the Type 45 GP Machine Gun was born. An intermediate cartridge (the 7.62 KZ) was chosen due to problems creating a suitable 10mm supersonic round.

The Type 45 “Cao” GP Machine Gun features an elongated graphene coated Durandium Alloy barrel, release mechanism, and a shroud that makes up the forward barrel assembly (FBA). The FBA is attached to the upper receiver (UR) that contains the firing chamber, upper feed system, and rotating bolt assembly. Both are supported by the lower receiver (LR) running the entire bottom half of the weapon. All together each component give the Type 45 a sleek but sturdy appearance.

The Type 45 “Cao” GP Machine Gun is designed to operate as both a squad support weapon and as a medium machine gun tasked with suppression of wide areas. The Type 45 can accommodate box magazines typically issued to common infantry from the side as well as drum magazines inserted from below. The Type 45 can be attached to various mounting systems such as tripods and a bipod can be attached to the bottom front of the weapon.

For ammunition choices, the Type 45 makes use of standard 7.62 KZ rounds, though there are plans to make use of 10mm hyper velocity rounds in the future.
