Hideyoshi Ayumu is a player character played by TeslaTornado and is currently involved in the YSS Freedom plot.

Build and Skin Color: Ayumu is tall and lanky, and looks like he's assembled from a series of Popsicle sticks covered by a meat-filled latex sleeve. His skin is pale, although not unhealthily so, but there are places where you can see the veins in his arms.

Facial Features and Eye Color: Ayumu has a flat face with high cheekbones and a small nose. His eyes are sunken deep into his skull and surrounded by purple bags that could swallow a Mindy if it got too close. His bespectacled, cold black eyes don't show much sympathy or emotion at all, really.

Hair Color and Style: Ayumu has dark brown hair, which is usually kept cut almost down to the root, level with the scalp.

Distinguishing Features: None.

Personality: Ayumu is generally distant and quiet, a real “man of few words” persona. He keeps to himself, generally locking himself away in either engineering or his bunk. When he does have to go out and be social (at meal time or in combat), he seems strained, almost on the verge of cracking psychologically. He's hard to talk to and doesn't have many friends. He makes up for his social shortcomings, however, with acute, sharp memory and depthless intelligence. He's also a pathological workaholic, and is rarely seen without one project of his or another on his person somewhere.

Ayumu isn't really that interesting a person. He was born like every other Yamataian, worked like every other yamataian, went to the Star Army like everyone brought up in the military. He's pretty much unremarkable by all respects. When the Freedom was attacked, Ayumu was the one working his ass off to keep it up as long as possible before abandoning his post and heading for the surface.

Ayumu was one of the last few people off the Freedom, briefly absent from the opening scenes of the evacuation before awakening in the driver's seat of one of the LUTs alongside his friend Natsuiro Hiyori. Ayumu briefly fell unconscious (fainted) when he was almost assaulted by a jungle animal.

He awakened a while later to aid in the collection of supplies and exodus from the flood basin the crew hand landed in, driving an LUT loaded with passengers and cargo, before he was knocked out again.

Ayumu awakened a third time the victim of heavy wounding after an artillery strike severely reduced the party's capacity for survival. They were rescued in a timely manner by the local tribals, who took him, along with the remaining survivors, to their village.

Ayumu is familiar with basic radio operation and procedures and can make transmissions to and receive transmissions from other characters through headsets, starships, power armor, and shuttles in both combat and non-combat conditions. He is fluent in Nepleslian and Yamataian. He can speak and write both correctly and efficiently and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc.

Ayumu received hand-to-hand combat training, followed up with a rigorous training program. He is skilled and experienced in combat both in Yamatai-like conditions and in zero-gravity, with and without weapons. Weapons he is trained in include energy pistols, knives, and power armor.

Ayumu is capable of operating any computer system that uses the Kessaku OS, found on all Star Army starships. He is proficient in entering and/or searching for information.

Ayumu received basic mathematics training, to including up to algebra and trigonometry.

Being one of the ship's engineers aboard the YSS Freedom, and a pathologic workaholic as well, Ayumu has become a shipboard prodigy in terms of ship equipment repair.

Ayumu, in his self designated spare time, devotes much of his non-engineering days to researching the past and present issues of Yamatai.

In addition to knowing how to repair the ship's equipment, Ayumu (in an emergency) can fill in for just about all of the bridge duties. Although he's not an expert in any field, he can hold down the fort in most combat and non-combat situations until someone better shows up to relieve him.
