Heu'trane is a type of transparent armor plating used in the construction of windows on starship's and stations, this type of gives ship and station personnel some assurances against enemy fire. The armor is nearly six inches thick in some places, although can be made thicker depending on construction requirements. The armor is noticeable due to the long, titanium rods that are built into the armor in the direct center, this gives the armor its reinforcing strength to be able to withstand a number of direct hits.

The transparent material itself is actually a crystalline powder that can be mined almost anywhere in Neshaten space and is what happens when crystals don't fully form. This powder is flash-heated to over six thousand degrees Fahrenheit for ten seconds, this causes the powder to melt into a glass-like material that is then combined with other minerals such as a nano-fibre based material that gives the armor its 'release', allowing to bend and flex so as not to shatter under heavy bombardments. However, the minerals used in its construction also causes the glass to polarize, darkening out the sun.

Naturally the armor has its limits. It can't be constructed in large pieces, doing so weakens the bound between the glass and the rods. This means that the smaller the glass panels, the stronger the armor. This has lead to station builders actually ordering panels that are no more than a foot in diameter, giving the armor its highest strength possible; this armor is then built into thin titanium braces, almost completely eliminating the 'space' between them and giving off the impression that the individual armor pieces are actually one unit when they are not.

Added safety measures for the armor can be added, including armored sleeves that roll over the glass to provide additional protection in a firefight. In the event the armor is damaged, a single piece, or an entire unit, can be easily replaced.

Because of this construction method, which is highly recommended, the armor's strength is quite high; but so too is the cost of building the armor.
